quote:And yet they came into the Iron Bowl ranked at or near the top in every defensive category, had held 9 of their previous 11 opponents to 1 offensive TD or less, and despite allowing 66 points and 800+ yards in their last two games still finished #5 In total defense and #4 in scoring, better than any other team in the nation's best conference.
Alabama's secondary and entire defense in general was shite this year compared to past years and everyone in the goddam country knows that.
quote:Actually, your 2005 defense was #2 in total defense and #1 in scoring nationally that year, and was statistically superior to all but a couple of Saban's squads. They were better than not only the '13 edition, but the BCS champion 2012 team as well.
But Auburn was playing a pedestrian Alabama defense at best. Only slightly better in my mind than the 2005 defense. Maybe equal.
Stop kidding yourself. Prior to the IB, it was unquestionable that Bama had the best defense in the nation. After the Sugar Bowl they were still the best in the SEC by a significant margin. Trying to pass them off as "pedestrian" in an apparent effort to diminish AU's performance against them is specious at best.

Watch a few of Alabama's full games. Besides the Iron Bowl. You'll observe that besides Landon Collins and occasionally eddie Jackson and on RARE occasions Deion belue, the secondary was completely awful. What about that schedule all you Aubies always talk about this year? It wasn't a very hard schedule. LSU was pretty much a cakewalk unlike they've been in previous years and Ole Miss was in over their heads. Miss State was our TOUGHEST game this year outside of A&M. Shoot, I also forgot about VT. Another sub-par team.
WHAT?!
Statistics are solid arguments always. But if you use the eye test, Alabama's defense and AT LEAST the secondary which you'd definitely have to admit, was like I said, pedestrian at best. Moseley being a god among men in that group. No pass rush either beside CJ and actually A'Shawn and J Allen, a few freshmen.
Auburn played one of Saban's worst teams (outside 2007) since he has been here. It might not seem like it since they were undefeated for the longest time. This whole post will be flamed I know but I'm sticking to my guns on this one because I know for a fact it is right.
Also to note, Colorado State gave us a hell of a game for 2-3 quarters if I remember correctly. Correct me if I'm wrong
