White flight started during the 60's. People fled to the suburbs because they were afraid the Birmingham City Schools would be closed due to segregation. It hit it's peak in the 70's.

yea i can't believe that such a historic stadium is in such bad shape. I could not see anything on the jumbotron, the audio was messed up, parking was terrible..
