The amount of sheer hatred that so many have for police officers has always interested me.
All of us hate da man when we're 17 and trying to not get busted for drinking or driving too past, but I guess some of us just never grow up.

We do love to infringe on some civil rights

I've never had a problem with police. I don't break the law though. I also have quite a few friends and some relatives that are LEO's.

If it was only that simple. I don't hate all cops but I respect very few. I have dealt with cops for most of adult life and I have only run into a few that were stand up guys most are just trying to get you to do or say something to incriminate yourself and if you don't they will fabricate it for you.

There are weapons everywhere in the UK. Fewer guns doesn't mean entirely disarmed.
So you dont see why they are different as far protocol on carrying a gun? or the difference between a non-firearm weapon and a firearm?

I guess I've just been very lucky then, I can honestly say I've never had a bad experience with the police.

I don't think I'd admit to that. I might admit to being a tPOS but definitely not one of those c-words.

I'm guessing the family of this 17 yo would disagree.

Well, of course. They were all just law abiding God fearing 'Mericans.

Some cops know their role, many do not. It's a power trip for most. The profession seems to attract many people that need a platform for a power trip. A good rational cop is a great thing, but they're few and far between.
And the militarization of police is a major problem, doesn't help with the power trip thing.
And can't imagine why some hate police...

I think there are a lot of good LEOs out there, and I've never had any problems with police. But, I'm pretty law-abiding.
I have seen some things that really bothered me though. As a part of a leadership program, I did a couple of ride-alongs with police. Over the course of those 2 nights, I witnessed racial profiling, abuse of power, excessive use of force, and just general being dicks because they could. It was disappointing. But those guys were uniforms in a patrol situation, not detectives. I'd like to think they get better as they move up the food chain. Maybe I'm naive.

I get the impression that a lot of cops were high school bullies that got into law enforcement to continue their ways on into adulthood.

I've never liked cops anyway, but the fact that the 3 biggest douchebags in my high school graduating class became cops just further justifies it for me. They were all pathological liars and had few friends. Many others I know from other schools all have similar experiences.

Hey now, I was a bully and never even considered becoming a cop.

You know, I asked one of the guys why he chose law enforcement. His response was that he was an adrenaline junkie. That did not make me feel safe.

I hate OPD and certain other agencies. I'm an ABC agency though.
