Nope, just a Tiger fan, which I've established by following the team for years and posting messages on boards like this. My claim to fanhood isn't a front to give legitimacy to my actions otherwise. There is nothing in Christianity or baptist convention that calls for or even implies the kind of militancy the WBC employs-in fact, quite the opposite. They seek to provoke, and calling themselves 'baptist' is just another way they seek to do so, since it plays on unthinking people's stereotypes.

Louisiana >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rust-Belt Ohio

I could actually be happy in BR or NO, but Cleveland, Columbus, or Cincinnati?

I would rather live in Watts, Compton, or LawngBaeech.

This thread seems to have derailed just a bit.

Now, on topic, the hate-mongering degenerates from WBC have protested various things in Cumbia over the years. Including the memorial service at a high school of 2 teenage girls murdered (along with their mother) by their deranged father. He and their mother divorced after group sex practices they participated in during heir marriage led to her leaving him for a woman they played with as a couple. He murdered his entire family on thanksgiving day, except for his young son. And these people at WBC thought the memorial service for the children was the proper place to spew their filth.

Their practices are nothing new, and really aren't that newsworthy anymore since people know what they are and no longer give them the reactions they seek. To me, the best image here was the wall of students who turned their backs to the hate and just ignored them. Best way to handle them, IMO. Good for the students at Mizzou.

I've had fun, but the name calling and ugliness is uncalled for.

This is the truth no matter the opinion on political foundations of Westboro. Many props to these students.

I dunno, they get pretty offended if you turn the tables on them and yell out "figs!" at them while walking by.

But yes, the best way to go about this is to just pretend they aren't even there. Members of WBC legitimately deserve to die.

You might be right. But it would have more to do with their personal feelings and less about Christianity if they treated them any differently.

I was born in Baton Rouge and went back for three years as an adult...trust me. It is no cakewalk to live there!

It's a good place to be FROM.

So why use the words Baptist Church in the name of their group?

What better way to ensure plenty of media coverage than playing right into the northeastern liberal media's preconceived bias against fundamentalist religion?
