Carmel by the Sea is amazing and if money is no object, it would be fine, especially along the PCH.

You get it. Jaw droppingly beautiful and Carme-by-the-Sea is the town to live in.
Everyone there is insanely wealthy, of course.

I actually like Charlotte a lot. I know it's not one of those places people dream of living but it is good for people my age I think and there's always plenty to do. Charleston isn't far away and would be fun - Wilmington, NC too.

I'm pretty happy here. I can't think of anywhere I'd rather live. Maybe 80 miles north in Haines, AK.

It's not the city, it's the people. Just too much hippie liberal tree hugging bidness in the northwest.

I'm not exactly a conservative.

If I could move anywhere in this country, it would take me months to figure out where.

East and West of the cascades are totally different, politically. Hell, even Southern Oregon around Grants Pass are some fairly conservative folks.
Juneau is liberal as hell, but it doesn't bother me. I can find people I like regardless of political persuasion. Folks tend to congregate with others like them anyway.
