quote:Oh it pays, just make sure to keep at least half of it for bail and attorney/court fees.
Getting tied up with a Mexican drug cartel does not pay.
If it didn't pay, we wouldn't have this thread to begin with. And no, I have no dog in this fight. But I have several acquaintances with experience in these matters. It's a revolving door of a life. In jail, out of jail, probation/parole, rinse and repeat. The problem is that once you are in the system, you are labeled for life. Good luck getting any job requiring a background check or any type of security clearances.

Speaking of being fricked if you ever get busted with a lot of weed..
I had a buddy who, before I met him, got busted with I believe 120 lbs in his trunk. A guy he was good friends with set him up and served him up to the police.
This was a long time ago, maybe a ten years. I met and got to be good friends with the guy a couple of years after. Dude actually avoided hardly any jail, think he got 20 days. He had to do a year of house arrest though. It also cost him about 150k I believe. He got the best attorney around and actually bribed the judge by contributing about 100k to his campaign or something like that. I don't remember all the specifics but it was interesting to hear. Problem was dude did get a felony charge for the massive amount he had and was fricked work wise even though he had a good degree from a good school (not AU).
Haven't talked to him in a few years but I know he had gone broke and really couldn't make a decent living because no one would hire him in his field and he had try selling cars, working security, working at night clubs, etc. And dude was really smart, charismatic, good looking, etc. He made several hundred k but it ruined his future prospects to ever make a decent living llegitimately when he got busted.
ETA: actually, thinking back I believe it was 80 lbs. Can't remember exactly as it was a long time ago but it was a few hundred K worth.
