Don't get me wrong, I think Evans will be stout but I think a redshirt will do him wonders under PJ.
We have quality depth at the DE position.
Johnson, Thompson, Brown, Ward, Haynes, McDowell. Not to metion Nkem, Bennett and Shackels will bump out there in certain packages.
Don't think Gates will see much time on D behind Nkem, Sir, and Smith. He could be a major player on special teams though.

The reason I see Evans playing is because we need speedy, edge setting pass rush DE's and the only one we have with that exact skill set is CJ
