They don't. The kid is not forced to play in the NCAA, therefore he can leave and make money off his name if he wants. My employer does not allow me to market myself as CPA outside of our firm. Should that be illegal too? Remember this is a very slippery slope

Some of you are obviously confusing stipends with various other things such as Pell Grants etc that supply cash to all students.

Many scholar-athletes are not allowed to work, even in the summer. The gist of the idea is too help these kids avoid or say no to those out there willing and able to exchange $100 handshakes and such.
