Coach Brady shared some insight into the type of player and person Alabama is getting in Petitbon.
"For a guy as big as he is, he has great ball skills. Basketball, lacrosse- he can throw a football 70 yards. Now I doubt he’ll play quarterback at Alabama, but he can throw a football a long way. He’s a great athlete, but he understands the game. He has good instincts, so hopefully it will play out where he has success at Alabama.
"Richie is a natural leader and the kids gravitate to him. He always has a smile on is face. He’s a competitor and is going to push the other guys to be better. He’s also gonna be the guy in the locker room that says, ‘hey, this is what we’re doing- these are what our goals are and this is what we’re doing.'
I guess we already have our QB for this class.

The three schools believed to be at the top of the 6-foot-4, 215-pound prospect's recruitment are Alabama, Florida and Georgia. 247Sports currently ranks Thomas as the nation's No. 152 overall prospect.

I have no idea where Thomas is headed. Maybe Florida?

I'm thinking UF. Wonder how solid he will be if UF tanks and CWM is out.

He said they were his leader, but if they have another crappy or even mediocre season I think Muschamp is gone. He put us in his Top 2 (51-49 edge to Florida) after his visit earlier this month. I guess if he commits before the season it could be Florida, but he may not end up there.

I'd guess UF for Thomas as well. OLB isn't a huge need now that we have Mekhi and Bell in this class. But we wouldn't turn down someone like Justin Hilliard if he wanted in. Maybe we'll take Josh McMillon and try to convert him into an ILB.

I prefer the more athletic guys inside anyway. I think our days of having a huge ILB with limited athleticism are over with the emergence of all these spread teams.

This past Saturday we all watched in awe as the Auburn Tigers offense looked better than ever since Gus Malzahn took over last season. In particular, with the departure of Tre Mason, it was interesting to watch the running back battle between Cameron Artis-Payne and Corey Grant, both of whom turned in valiant performances and stated their cases for the starting spot loudly.
But don’t get ready to anoint either as the definitive Auburn running back starter just yet, because there is one candidate that has yet to have his chance at impressing the coaching staff, and that’s top 2014 recruit Racean ‘Roc’ Thomas.
Thomas rushed for over 2,000 yards in his high school senior year last season, and absolutely has a chance to come in and take the job away from both of the seniors right off the bat, which is not a bad position Malzahn and staff find themselves in with three more than capable running backs ready to step up and fill Mason’s spot.
However, as Thomas himself recently pointed out, it was almost a problem that Auburn didn’t have because when the recruiting process was coming down to the wire, he was full ready to commit to the rival Alabama Crimson Tide, the team that he grew up idolizing.
He was ready, that is, until Nick Saban and the coaching staff told him to hold up, something Thomas wouldn’t have any of.
“I was like, ‘Well, no I’m not going to hold on. If y’all want my commitment, then y’all will let me commit right now,’” Thomas told ESPN.com.
Thomas then went on to say that the decision may have surprised most that knew him, but he ultimately made the decision that was best for him in the end.
“I think a lot of people were surprised,” Thomas said. “And [at the same time], I think a lot of them really kind of knew that’s where I was going to go. I guess it’s just stuff that happened over time.”
We’ll see in the next few months once Thomas arrives on the Plains whether or not Alabama’s loss becomes Auburn’s ultimate gain.

Not saying the Alabama staff made the right decision, but there have been doubts expressed that Roc's recruitment went that way. Here it is from his own mouth.
