Less than 24 hours into this cluster that is going on, it's easy to see how many people are ill prepared or have a lack of common sense. I wonder how many would survive a true disaster.

I bought a nice generator due to a big storm just before Katrina, and then the garage burned down , taking the generator with it. I didn't replace it right away but it wouldn't have helped anyway. What I didn't consider was all the refugees from the coast plus all the locals can wipe out local gas supplies in a hurry, and those supplies aren't going to be replenished soon. Food isn't a problem. With all the trees here heat isn't a problem with a sharp axe. But keeping fuel on hand is my new #1. As far as stuff to keep in your vehicle... I dunno, but it seems to me if terrible weather is on its way that you shouldn't be in your vehicle! But maybe that's just me.
