I think you've blown right past the larger point: They're there as a STUDENT athlete, first and foremost. The school is providing them with an education whether the player gets drafted or not. If the kid's too fricking obtuse to make the most of that overarching benefit, then I don't have the slightest bit of sympathy for their rock star ambitions. That education that so many scholarship players gloss right over is their best insurance against vanishing into obscurity if their numbers don't come up in the NFL lottery.

If the kids think they are getting screwed (and I don't hear kids saying that... just people outside the program), then they can go play in Canada right away.
How many kids walk away from their scholarships, walk away from the best facilities in the world, and walk away from the best coaches in the world to make a good paycheck in Canada?
Not many. The next player to do this would be the first player I've ever heard about.
Maybe they have it good being the big man on campus for 3+ years.
