I think what you are getting at is Ole Miss beat LSU in football and basketball, but no one believes they are better than LSU at football or basketball. LSU may play poorly against Ole Miss. I think it is more likely that Ole Miss plays very well against LSU, but they are unable to carry that over to the rest of their games. As a result, LSU generally has a better season than Ole Miss and LSU is perceived by most, if not all, to have stronger programs. If Ole Miss were able to play their other conference opponents as well as they play LSU, they might compete for championships and build a stronger reputation. Then it wouldn't be a major shock when they upset LSU.
