Alabama had two good classes prior to 2008. The 2007 class was #10 and the 2006 was #11, therefore Bama had solid talent. The 2008 class had 32 signees and Saban purged the roster just like a NFL GM would do.
He did it at LSU in 2001. He signed the best recruiting class in LSU's history in 2001 and won the SEC Title that year. After signing the 2nd best recruiting class in LSU's history in 2003, LSU won the National Title in 2003.
It's all about talent, my man. No talent, no titles. He's the best damn recruiter in the history of college football.

Exactly. Saban went 26-2 from 2008-2009 and still had a ton of players left over from the probation era. Javier Arenas, Rashad Johnson, and Marquis Johnson are prime examples of Sabans ability to develop players. Sorry for stating facts. Love you guys.
