Academy Sports Gun Sales Story (wtf moment)

Yesterday as I was getting a feel for some fishing reels, I saw something a bit unnerving. I'm not going to be PC here, 2 hoodlums were looking at shotguns. Their speech made Jameis Winston's NC interview look like a FSU English Major Promo Video.
Anyway, 2 guys. 1 guy ask all the questions. He points at every gun for his buddy to inspect and point. The 2nd guy actually pointed the gun at the stores center and the clerk freaked out and told him to only aim at at the back wall not toward customers. So you've got the 1 guy asking all the questions and the 2nd handling the guns. They finally made a decision and the 1rst guy hands the 2nd guy enough for the $600 gun while the 2nd guy fills out the paper work.
I'm no FBI profiler but guy #1 was a felon. Guy #2 was clearly buying the gun for guy #1. I feel like I saw Jackson MS's next murder weapon purchased.
Question is how tf was something so obvious done legally? shite, I've bought beer in Kroger where they asked to see my wife's id too b/c she was with me. I guess it's easier to by guns than a six pack.

Because the NRA as effectively brainwashed enough Americans into believing it is their birthright to own a gun, and any challenge to that is a form of tyranny.

dude selling the gun probably can't prove that he was buying it for his friend.
i don't know if gun clerks get to have the same discretion that a person selling alcohol does.
one time when i was a waiter some WT dad ordered a pitcher of beer and two glasses. only other person there with him was his 10-12 year old kid. i refused to bring him a second glass. he asked for my manager. i explained my hesitation to my boss and he said that he agreed and wouldn't hold it against me. apparently making that sell can be at the discretion of the vendor.

Happens all the time. As long as you don't physically give the clerk the money, you didn't purchase the weapon. Some of us with checkered pasts must use this method to protect ourselves from the bad elements that are still out there. Btw how did you know they were hoodlums and not just proponents of the urban fashion movement and dialects.

As a FFL the employee selling the gun has the responsibility to recognize when a straw purchase is occurring. This one seems like an easy call for the employee. When you are a FFL you have the right to refuse any gun sale for any reason.

I'll just agree to disagree with on this issue.
Just a side note there were places that I wouldn't do certian things at back in the day because I knew there were guns there. Just fyi.

Not the far left, but I am left of center. I actually own guns and support the 2nd Amendment. I just hate the NRA and what they stand for.

I've done something very similar when I bought my brother a gun for Christmas one year (granted it wasn't a $600 gun - frick my brother). He's not a Felon, and neither am I.
We're white - I doubt anybody paid it much thought. I'm not saying your theory isn't true, but without proof, it's just profiling.

The NRA can be extreme, but considering we have powerful politicians like Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein and Dennis Kucinich who have stated they want to ban ALL guns, I'm glad the NRA is there to counteract the insanity.

If you saw this same thing at a used car lot, would you have started a thread about it? Cars are much more deadly than guns.
