Prestige. Since the South started winning a couple rose bowls pre-1950 and the national media wasn't exclusively focused on only ND, USC, and non-SEC teams so much, the SEC has been one of if not the strongest leagues for the last 60 years.

Uh, no.

More like the last 15 years.

White boy football in segregated Southern country-club club sport known as the SEC...was never considered great football.

Up until the 1990's - the Southern schools couldn't beat USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma.

That's where football was at.

The SEC was ridiculed in the 1980's - I know, I was there alive watching it.

It was considered slow and boring.

Learn your history young newbie.

UGA dominated the early 80s and Auburn took over in the mid part. The SEC wasn't getting "ridiculed" in that decade.

You could say the same thing about stanford, bama, etc. today. Are people 'ridiculing' those teams?
