Teams like aTm might not GAS because they don't really go head to head much with auburn in recruiting, but for teams that share a recruiting ground, and play against Auburn every year, it matters.
This makes sense. But Auburn fans could have pitched a fit about being forced to remain in the SECw by Alabama, UGA, and UF despite being a better geographical fit for the SECe but we've dealt with it and succeeded despite efforts of our rivals to hold us back
Every team can find something to complain about. But, like it or not, the benefits of being a member of the SEC outweigh the negatives that you may encounter

I live in an area with an influx of ACC folks. I can assure you up here it means a lot when the SEC does well.
That's what I have trouble with, shouldn't USC be the only thing that matters?
Say the SEC goes 0-fer in bowls except SC. If all the ACC people say, which is stupid btw, "lol the SEC sucks look at all the bowl games!" you could easily say "Ummm..Carolina won didn't they?" Why should you put SEC pride over SC pride?
And take the inverse. If SC lost and they were poking fun, does it really make you feel better to say "yeah, well...at least UGA, AU, and bama won!!"

Your scenario isn't exactly what this thread is about though..
If a team starts out ranked shitty, but continues to win, they will be ranked high. It doesn't matter who they're playing. An SEC team that's 10-0 will be ranked high regardless of preseason, likewise an SEC team tha's 5-5 will be ranked accordingly as well. All that conference SOS stuff shakes out week to week.
I'm talking about bowl games. The SEC winning all the bowls this year does nothing to help UGA. That's my bottom line point. I, and ANY fan of ANY team, should ultimately ONLY care about what is absolute best for their team. Aside from my team winning obviously, other SEC teams winning does nothing to help UGA, so I have no reason to root for them.

YOu said it...auburn won 3 games last year and was unranked this year.
Yes, but they beat the other teams that were ranked early to climb the rankings. Our conference sets itself up for BCS success by having more teams ranked in the Top 25 the whole year. If those teams win, they move up, if the other SEC teams beat them, then they move in and up.

I've never disagreed. I like being in the SEC, it's the best league around. All I'm saying is that all the other teams winning is irrelevant to my team succeeding.

Also, the SEC is playing 4 Big1G teams in bowls this year. If we sweep them, or even win 3 of 4 it will feed the media's subjective dominance of the SEC and that will help the rankings next year.

They scraped by an average MSU team. LSU has 3 losses. aTm has 4 losses. UT and arkasnas are trash. UGA has 4 losses.
Auburn climbed in the polls because of one thing, winning. Preseason, on paper, it looked like a murderer's row schedule but it ended up being not quite as much. Auburn kept winning though, and kept rising. And again that has nothing to do with bowl games from January '13.

Beating #1, undefeated Alabama probably did more to place Auburn in the NC than winning the SECCG
*And I threw up in my mouth a little as I typed that

The SEC has been a top 2 league for like 2 decades now. What happens in those 4 games isn't going to change that.
And like I've said ealier, it doesn't really matter that much what these bowls do for next year's preseason rankings. If teams continue to win, they will continue to move up.

And alabama was #1 because they were flat out dominant over just about everyone they faced the entire year. Not because of last year's bowl game.
And before you say last year's bowl game is why they started #1...if they had started at let's say 3, do you not think they would have climbed after the season they had?

Right. That's for recruits that are choosing between an SEC team and teams from other conferences. For UGA, UA, AU, UT, LSU, the Miss schools, that isn't all that common. We're recruiting against each other, mainly(FSU as well, and that's why I think this is the worst case scenario NCG matchup from UGA's perspective, but I'll cheer for the team we don't play every year)
again many recruits from all schools say they chose the SEC schools because they wanted to play in the SEC. does that pertain to all recruits, no. But dont kid yourself that some of these recruits are only being recruited by SEC teams. The OP is an obtuse fallacy.

It's not. I'm not an SEC fan. I didn't attend the U of SEC and I don't send money every year to the SEC. I want what's best for UGA, not the SEC.
So what good does it do to try to sell a recruit on playing in the SEC where they've won the last x national titles, when bama, uf, auburn, lsu can say "yeah, but WE'VE actually won them"?

So why are SEC teams with more losses ranked higher than teams from other conferences?

My post was more directed towards the cachet of beating the #1 ranked team in the country. That win became Auburn's best of the season and validated them as a legit NC contender.
If Auburn and UGA are undefeated next year when the DSOR rolls around and UGA comes out with a Win, you'll appreciate Auburn winning all of their games to that point when it's time to seed for Playoffs and Bowls
It's the old adage, "If you wanna be the best, you must beat the best."

Boy that Auburn- uga game really screwed you people up this year didn't it! The gumps have handled it much better than you uga people. You people better seek help now before it is too late. I'm starting to worry about you people.
