I too think it's a combination of things..before i get started, let me add:

I am not scared of black people, or hispanics, or any race, nor do i think any less of them.

I think that there is a huge problem with the "ghetto" culture--or culture that idolizes drugs, violence, money at any cost etc. Are there socioeconomic factors involved? You bet your arse there are. Blacks, among other races, have had it especially hard in America and aren't seen kindly in the eyes of prosecutors most of the time. Many black children don't have a father figure to teach them how to behave in society and you will see deviance in these poor urban black children just as you will see it in the poor rural white children who don't have a father figure or come from a broken home. They are habitual offenders both as a product of generations of dysfunction and a culture they idolize which keeps them in the same place they are or worse.

In the end, it's all about responsibility of the individual. Yes, there are many socioeconomic factors and many that can be attributed to race. But in today's world, both white and black, regardless of where you came from--you are the one who reaches a point of deciding whether to make a future for yourself or fall back into the same bad habits as your friends or relatives. That's it.

LBJ's "Great Society" ruined the black community..which is ironic considering it was supposed to help them.

Prior to that, only 24% of black children were born out of wedlock. Now 75% of black children are born out of wedlock. The social safety net has created a lack of personal responsibility, especially among poor minorities.

When you can have a kid and know the Gov't will foot the bill, then you simply don't care about practicing safe sex or working to pay for a child. It really is a problem in this country. It is having a negative effect on all races, but even more so in minority communities who were already struggling economically.
