Per CL / Bonner
quote:

With past history, Mississippi State draws interest from Liberty Bowl

A Liberty Bowl representative attended Mississippi State’s final two games of the year. Last week when MSU beat Arkansas, coach Dan Mullen acknowledged the personnel after the game.

In Thursday’s Egg Bowl, representatives looked at both teams.

“We’ve got a great history with both universities, some of the most memorable games. Archie Manning talks about his game, how meaningful that was in his life,” Liberty Executive Director Steve Ehrhart said. “We’ve had great experiences with both universities, we’ve followed both universities throughout the year.”

Ehrhart said he has Mississippi State and Ole Miss helmets in his office. Mississippi State last played in the Liberty Bowl in 2007 against Central Florida. The game in Memphis drew some of the highest ratings during the bowl season. MSU also drew a crowd of 63,816 — a Liberty Bowl record.

The Bulldogs also drew 61,497 in 1991 when they played Air Force. That attendance ranks third all-time in the bowl’s history.

“That was a terrific experience,” Erhart said. “…It was one of the highest rated ESPN games that year. And then also we’ve had a great experience with Ole Miss with the history with the bowl.”

The Liberty Bowl is schedule for a 3 p.m. kickoff in Memphis at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

I'm all good with this..

Hard to see how our traveling fans get this kind of praise since a fair amount of "other people" make out like we only carry a few cars and a livestock hauler to away games. :roll eyes:

Discuss..

I say State goes to Liberty and we're in Nashville.

I think that is correct.. Nashville is fun and that would put both fan bases / teams marginally close. I personally would rather go to the Liberty Bowl as opposed to Compass based on history (and me hating Alabama as a state), but I'll take whatever and be happy about it after this year..

Just my luck. I already have plans to be out of town and my bulldogs will be playing a bowl game here in Memphis.

Same. I was happy with the bowl last year but I'd much rather go Liberty.

I screwed up and agreed to a night time thanksgiving dinner last night so I know the feeling.

There is no way Vandy ends up in BHam

If we go to Memphis- OM is headed back to BHam

Disagree. Everything I've heard is that win or lose Thursday, we were in Nashville. Mizzou loss guaranteed that.

I actually didn't get to go last year due to family reasons. But all my buddies said that, other than the stadium and the neighborhood it was in, Birmingham was a lot of fun.

The reason a decent amount of people complained about it was because the stadium ran out of everything. Not just alcohol. Everything. There were no concessions left about mid-way through the 3rd quarter. Legion Field and Birmingham didn't anticipate such a large crowd.

Absolutely. We have a decent amount of fans already in Nashville. We sold our total allotment to the Cotton Bowl both years we went there so I don't see why we wouldn't. I love Nashville.

There is literally no way we go to liberty.

No way they chose a 6-6 team over a 8-4, especially because OM will already be jumping vandy because music city is better than liberty

Compass where yat

Now that an SEC team may not be headed to a NC game, how does this affect bottom of the barrel bowl contenders like ourselves??

We will still get 2 BCS games. SEC champ winner will get sugar and bama will take the place of FSU in Orange
