That's the difference...Spurrier is still a great in-game coach/offensive minded guy, Saban understands the lifeblood is recruiting so he hires a staff and replacements that absolutely wreck shite...he'd do it at USCe easily because he'd dominate the rest of the SEC East in recruiting

You think Saban always recruited so well? You think Spurrier doesn't understand that recruiting is the lifeblood of a program?

How did Saban do at Michigan State? Now, remember, he had both Brad Lawing and Mark Dantonio on his staff at Mich State recruiting like gangbusters for him. I wanna say Josh McDaniels was on that staff as well.

I can tell you that Brad once told me that Saban was a good closer, but not an exceptional recruiter at the time. LSU gave him the creds to finally recruit the big time athletes ... because his legend actually didn't begin to grow until LSU. He owes LSU a lot in that regard ... LSU and the SEC for that matter. You don't recruit, in state, at LSU, you select. And Saban's forte is his eye for talent. We all knew that about him instantly. The guy can watch film and know if he can make something out of a prospect, or not. He turns down a ton of 4 and 5 star talent because they do not fit his system. But he hires assistants that can really recruit - and he is good at doing that. (Although Chris Rumpf is failing him badly in the Carolinas, and I hope that continues.)

Saban could come to Carolina and win big because of what Holtz and Spurrier has built ... plus, these days, almost every big name recruit wants to play for the legend of Saban. Not all mind you. Spurrier has out-recruited Saban in the Carolinas. And Saban does not exactly own Georgia either.

BTW, correct me if I am wrong, but if you look at Bama's roster, Saban is still reeling in the benefits of having coached in Louisianan. He's probably got more LA 4 and 5 star prospects on his roster at Bama than any other program in the country next to LSU.
