The problem is that CMR doesn't micromanage the offense and defense, and he trusts his coordinators to get the job done so he can work on the bigger picture.

The freedom has allowed Bobo to flourish, but Grantham has greatly underwhelmed. And, because Richt is all about second chances, he's been really patient with CTG. The youth and inexperience excuse goes only so far (first few games?) but a good leader will try to develop their people and maximize their strengths as well as remove as many barriers as possible to success.

In this case, it looks like the players are being drilled in fundamentals (player development) and the playbook on defense is a huge barrier to success, and it doesn't seem like that has been changed. I would hope that CMR sits down with CTG after the season and puts him on a "performance improvement plan" (if he isn't let go outright after the season) to get his crap together for next season.

The frustration comes in for the fans because we aren't involved with the politics of an athletic department and we don't worry about budgets and contracts. Those sorts of things make decisions harder on the staff, so I'm sure they are trying to make fixes internally before they go seeking a replacement. It can get really expensive really fast to hire coaches and fire them before their contracts are up.

I hope CTG is gone after this season. The body of work he has amassed has not justified his salary, IMO.

Foo,

If Richt isn't micro-managing the O and D then what the F' is he doing? Not special teams, not balanced recruiting, not coaching S&C.

What does the man do all day? Serious question. Is he just a figurehead? Is his day filled with media stuff? Meeting recruits? Is this what all head coaches do? I've never been a coach, and the coaches in my sport were sort of "do this work out at this pace, then I'll get back to you" types.
