Texas players (mostly on defense) were "puking their guts out" in the 4th quarter as described after the game.
We ran a wishbone with literally quite possibly the best backfield in the history of college football in 1983. #1 and #2 overall NFL draft picks (and Heisman winner). A guy who set the single season NFL all purpose yards record, a record that stood for almost 20 years. A guy who started for the Cowboys and has two super bowl rings. A guy who put played in 44 career games and was drafted by the Bears. And finally a guy who put up over 800 career yards but was not drafted.
In case you weren't counting, we had 5 NFL running backs carry the ball in 1983, plus a 6th guy who was pretty dang good.
Dye came out with the damn air raid in the first half to surprise Texas. Called it the worst coaching job of his 40 years in football as a player and coach. Said if he had realized the Texas defense would be on the sideline puking from running it at them in the second half he would have run it up their arse all 4 quarters. Granted we had receivers wide open all over the field in the first half, but we had a qb who could only throw a wounded duck about 20 yards.
Anyway, yeah, play that game over, AU runs it right up their arse and wins about 24-10.

I've noticed you really struggle with the meaning of this word.

You can't say that. First of all Bo Jackson said he "felt like he was stampeded on by a herd of cattle" after the game. When you got down by 20 points in that era the game was over. It didn't matter what Auburn did in the 2nd half.
If Aubie gets a do over how about Nebraska. Miami in their home stadium raced out to a 17-0 lead, but Nebraska straight beat down Miami in the 4th quarter. If they had kicked the extra point on their last TD, Auburn would have no argument.
Texas lost the Cotton Bowl on a fumbled punt. If their returner fair catches the ball they win the title.
These scenarios are way more believable than anything you posit. Sorry about Auburn tough schedule but there's no claim Auburn can make that can't be refuted. Nebraska who got more 1st place votes than Auburn can make a better claim for a shared title.

They are literally the best backfield to be on a roster at the same time in CFB.
