Solving the fake injury problem

I'm sure others have proposed this and there may be an obvious reason it wouldn't work, but why not just say that if a player is "injured" and officials stop play, the player can't return for a quarter?
Maybe that is too long but some other length of time would dissuade people from faking.
Obviously then the next problem would be late game situations where there isn't much time left...
What do yall say?

If only swain had done this

Because it's more important to NOT PUNISH someone who legitimately gets knocked out of a couple plays than it is important to punish someone who mistreats the rule.

A whole quarter is a bit overkill. The remainder of the current drive would probably work, though.
Remember this will impact players with legitimate injuries as well. A kid that catches cramps and goes down for a play or two shouldn't be forced to sit out the rest of an entire quarter - particularly if it happens in the 4th.

Brandon Allen got stepped on in the 1st Q and was able to return a few plays later...why should he have to sit until the 2nd?

No, that's too hateful. Gotta respect the player and take them for their word, er, greatly exaggerated and poorly acted feigned injury

Yep... swain came right back in and played the remainder of the 4th...
oh wait...
oh wait...

A quarter probably is too long, which I alluded to. Would the next offensive possession for the team with the ball be decent? I think it'd be reasonable.

Great idea. Swain should have sat out for an entire quarter.

I think that would work. Player returns on change of possessoin.

Good thing swain didn't return anyways

I don't think that the fake injury problem is a large enough problem to get aggressive with yet, but college football seems to get faster and moving towards uptempo offenses year by year.
With that being said.. The first thing that came to mind was to make the player that is "injured" sit out the rest of the drive without question.
Another option is to force them to take a timeout.

Can the super sensitive Auburn fans calm down a little bit? Most teams have had guys fake an injury, I'm not starting this thread to pile on Swain. It's a current issue in football. If anybody would like to discuss it feel free.

Lord knows UGA has.
In this fast offensive cfb world we live in, change of possession would not be very long.

You cannot force a TO.

I'd love to see it happen but it would be a vote, and all the coaches that teach fake injuries would oppose.

I say just cut off the affected limb and be done with it. That will stop all injuries....or give the slow, un-athletic, smart kids a chance to finally get in the game.
