Mizzou Board - Please Read

All, these team boards are all relatively new. Having admins is even newer. Semo and myself are even newer than that. There are going to be growing pains involved with the team boards as new issues come up. Add to this, the growing interest in Mizzou with the season the team has been having so far and there is more interest in our board. All we hope to do is help make it an enjoyable place for Mizzou fans and those interested in Mizzou to be able to talk about the team, the school, the state. We do believe certain types of threads and issues take away from that enjoyment and so we're going to try to make some changes to make it more enjoyable for everyone. The changes aren't because anyone did anything wrong or improper, but because there was no other option before.
One of the issues that has been a source of discussion has been how or what criteria to use when admitting new posters. There have been a lot of suggestions talked about and they all have their pros and cons. It has been suggested by those with a higher pay grade than myself or semo that there be a move away from casting votes in a thread on the board. I'm sure most of you have already seen or even commented on the move away from that approach.
So on admitting new posters:
First, some are granted access by others besides semo or myself and they are usually claiming to be Mizzou fans. Second, moving forward, semo and myself will try to use our best judgment on who should or should not be granted access. If the person claims to be a Mizzou fan, they will be granted access immediately. We recognize that some could be alters but those can and will be weeded out and access revoked. If an alter only contributes legitimate discussion, then there's no worries anyways. As for posters from other schools, contrary to the popular beliefs of some, not just anyone and everyone is admitted. Typically, they are asked about their interests or ties to the university. At times, their post history is reviewed. Generally speaking, if those things are satisfactorily answered, we want to be welcoming to others as long as they are respectful of our board.
We are also cognizant of the numbers. We are both Mizzou fans and don't want the black and gold to be the minority. It's no where close to that to date. A vast majority of posters from other schools don't even post on our board. A smaller group posts infrequently and even a smaller group posts somewhat regularly. I will also add that all of the current posters have been respectful of our board and have contributed in a constructive way to many discussions. On the one occasion that this was not the case, it was corrected with relative ease and promptness. That is the process at work and it shows that the process works.
Having said that, we also keep in mind that this is a Mizzou board and is for Mizzou posters first and foremost. While we have always preferred a relatively speaking "open doors" policy, we have also been adamant that it won't be at the expense of Mizzou posters. We also don't want to be the sole arbiters of the board. So the question becomes how to handle a situation where it is nearly unanimously felt that someone was granted access that should not have been granted access.
It is our belief that having threads that only sling mud, whether at a new poster or at each other, detracts from the board. Also, if the only way one can question another poster is by doing so publicly, it may discourage that Mizzou fan from voicing their opinion. Therefore, semo and I have created an email account where ANY concerns can be sent. Whether it is a recent addition to our board, complaints about the board or it's admins, or any other comment, it can be sent to mizzourant@gmail.com. Suggestions on improving our board are obviously welcome. We'll do our best to get back to each as soon as humanly possible, even if a final answer can't be found as quickly. While this may create a bit more work on semo and my end, we hope it makes it better for everyone overall.
There will no longer be threads on the board for these issues. Any that are created will be anchored and/or deleted. All they tend to do is create unnecessary drama, detracts from the board and potentially dissuades others from joining the board.
Hopefully this will make the board more attractive and more enjoyable for everyone. That is our only goal.
Thanks
Semo and Reedus

It feels really corporate all of a sudden.
I guess it's good that one board on the rant will be anchoring and deleting dumb shite.

Everyone feel free to put their two cents in.
Kilo, this has been discussed for a long time before your thread about CNB. I was afraid you would think it was a result of it.
The truth is that there has been a discussion of trying to avoid having those issues brought up on the boards for quite some time. Whether it's a concern about a current poster or if someone is an alter or any other issue. It will eliminate all of the public mud slinging and resulting hard feelings and drama that develops. It's much the same reasoning as why the idea of voting in the threads is discouraged. Ultimately, it is going to result in mud slinging and take away from the board.
I am certainly open to other options if you have one. The goal is to give a means of voicing concerns/complaints but in a way that doesn't involve public mud slinging.
Other boards have successfully used an email system for complaints. Really it doesn't change anything. The only difference is instead of creating a thread saying "Reedus23 is such a douche alter troll that shouldn't have access" you can just email it and if reedus23 is a douche alter troll his posting privileges will be revoked.

Just trying to give a means of dealing with the dumb shite but just in a not so in your face kind of way. Others do it. You just don't know it because it isn't there to be seen.

Honestly reedus, it changes a lot.
The involvement of the general community here to discuss and have input over things here has diminished. Its to the point now that we have no input over who is admitted and know cant even discuss issues in the open with each other related to posters admitted. You two can say what you want but that is the bottom line right now. Part of what made this forum unique is being lost. Not sure it competes with the other Mizzou forums when it moves towards being the "same" as the others.
If that's what you and semo want, that's your prerogative. Its hard to argue that things have changed pretty dramatically.

CliffNotes:
- Complaint threads and other forms of dissonance will no longer be tolerated on the Mizzou board.
- Send all complaints to the Ministry of Truth's email account mizzourant@gmail.com
- Report to your local FEMA medical outpost for RFID chip implanting.
- While at FEMA don't forget to pick up your Soma. A gramme a day keeps your troubles away.
- Remember the following -- war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength.

I will say this may have gone over better if presented differently. Cubbie and Kilo are both regulars, they've been here a long time, we're all sort of friends in a way. To get a corporate type memo like this is cold and unnecessary.
This could have been super short and more informal. 'Guy's, instead of flooding the board with complaint threads just email them to X email. The other boards have this policy and it seems to work fine.'
Appreciate the extra effort you and semo put into running this board.

I would tend to disagree with the fact that it moves it towards being the "same" as others. In fact, it's trying to move it away from becoming like another Mizzou forum where it seems like all it becomes is a bitch fest between posters with little talk about the school or the team. Ultimately, that's the goal. Let the focus of the discussion on the board be reserved to the team, the school or the state while providing a means to let everyone say "Hey. This is bullshite." Still open to suggestions.

Probably right about that. Won't argue that point one bit. My anal nature probably made it all too formal. That is on me and I'll own that.
ETA - Thought I should add that it wasn't done that way because I felt it deserved some explanation and was afraid saying only that would sound heavy handed. I don't think it mattered how it was said, it was going to come off as heavy handed.

Oh nonsense. This place hasn't been a bitch fest about other posters or fighting. The only thing I see is push back to the choice to let everyone and their brother come to this forum and post from the rant. Apparently that push back has annoyed yourself and semo. Semo made her feelings pretty clear when she said the thread about CNB "gave her a headache" CNB trolled the shite out of Mizzou.
Meh. This forum was better when it was more exclusive to Mizzou posters in general. I came around from that and thought a few outsiders would be good but you and semo have taken it to ridiculous levels. Please dont try and say this isnt true. Im not sure if its hits or activity thats driving this change but I dont like where this ended up and Im not sure that Im gonna be around much in the future. I already stay away from he SECr for the most part now. So in the end, do what you gotta do and I guess everyone else can make their choices about participation based on those decisions.

Hey, guys. First of all, this thread wasn't intended to step on anyone's toes, and it wasn't directed at anyone specifically. And the last thing we want to do is alienate anyone. Whether it not you believe it, I like each and every poster on this board, for a variety of reasons. Everyone has something to add that adds to the interesting little thing we have going on here. It like Cheers, and we want everyone to feel connected, and like a part of the family.
Every family has squabbles and growing pains though. Everyone won't always agree, and that's ok. We just don't want the negativity affecting the board, and potentially running off people who could add some cool, different perspectives here. That's why we thought an email would be a good thing. That will also hopefully keep things from getting mean on the site, but still give people a voice. We also hope to keep some drama at bay.
I also want to make sure everyone understands that reedus and I are admins of this board only. We don't have the ability to ban anyone from the rant or Tiger Droppings - if someone gets banned, we didn't do it, and neither if us have ever asked for any Mizzou poster to be banned. Instead, we have gone to bat for every single poster here who has been banned and asked for them to have another chance.
And neither of us agreed to be an admin because we wanted any power. I said yes, when asked, because I'm a Mizzou fan, and I enjoy the site, and I want to help create an environment that others will enjoy too. A place where people can talk, banter, have fun... That's what we're trying to do. Most people are turned off by bitching and complaining. Believe me, I sure didn't say yes for the money (because there isn't any), or because I enjoy getting woken up by an email like the one I got in the middle of last night telling me frick you, that I suck, and have ruined the board.
We are honestly just trying to create an active, fun board that people can have fun with and enjoy. We will screw up, because we're not perfect, and when we do we will try to fix it. But I hope we can agree that we'd prefer an imperfect system that we can work on to the Wild West that is the Georgia board right now, with alters running rampant, no one keeping an eye on things and no one to be an advocate for their members.
Be patient, and work with us instead of against us, ok?

I may have not been clear. Yesterday was pretty negative and ugly, at least what I saw when I checked in at 1am. I Was hoping today would be better, but it didn't seem to be. I was frustrated by that. It wasn't you that did it, it was just too much after a late night.

IMO, y'all are over-thinking this. The forum hasn't become unusable or unmanageable. I feel like instituting a overarching solution to a small problem is overreach. And it's rather quickly becoming a top down organization rather than a community. That won't help. It's always going to be a little messy. It's a forum. Ride herd. Don't build fences.
Do whatcha want.
Do whatcha want.

Ok, I've slept on it and let's try this. The email is there. I'll still check it. People can feel free to email there if they prefer if they have concerns/complaints or anything else. Some people may be hesitant to voice their opinion if forced to do it in a public manner.
Me and semo get the "community" aspect that y'all are talking about and being able to openly discuss issues. So what we'll do is have one more sticky thread with a benign title where concerns over a poster being a troll, or an alter, or frankly complaints about how me or semo are doing things, or even suggestions for change can be voiced. That will stop the threads calling out individuals by name but still give everyone a place to voice their concerns.
Let's see how that works.

I was not going to reply to this thread. But I have a big mouth and I am an idiot.
I personaly don't care how this board is administered. I'll keep doing what I've been doing. If that somehow lands me in the clinker, so beit. I came here to talk Mizzou and SEC sports with other Mizzou fans and SEC fans. My opinion is the team boards should never have been open to other fan bases but thats not my decision and I don't own or pay for this site. So I live with it. So until I am band for some reason or just burn out, I'll be around in a limited basis.

Ain't no one being banned. Just trying to keep the talk to what you said...Mizzou and SEC sports. Hopefully you keep doing what you're doing. I enjoy your posts and nothing needs to change.
