Prevent defense is an American football defensive alignment that uses seven or more defensive backs or players in a defensive back role
No it's not. Having 3-4 DB's 40-50 yards downfield to prevent a score with no time remaining is a prevent defense.
No one runs a prevent defense with 3+ minutes to go in a 1 possession game.

People like to confuse a 3 or 4 deep zone for the prevent.

Great minds think alike ... see above. We were typing at the same time - but in my old age I felt the need to pontificate a bit more, obviously, while taking into account the overall low IQ of the SECr.

What does Prevent Defense Mean?
This is a defensive strategy used in football when the defense believes the offense must pass the ball. This type of defense can take many forms, but it typically makes use of at least seven defensive backs, leaving only four defensive linemen. The goal of this strategy is to "prevent" the offense from gaining any significant yardage or scoring a touchdown in a single play, hence the name of the strategy. This defense will allow the offense to gain yardage within a limit that still prevents it from gaining the yards it needs to score.
