LSU couldn't run the ball because LSU couldn't run the ball, had nothing to do with the clock.

the game literally ended with 4 consecutive whiffs from mettenberger.

Yes, some of mettenbergers passes looked damn good. but some didn't. enough didn't that his team lost the game. Sure its tough lose ground on a personal award because of a team performance, but unlike JFF, who played out of his mind good against Alabama, we are left with a game in which Mettenberger could have done more, and his failure to do more cost his team the game.

Sure, if LSU wins out and Mettenberger looks dominant the rest of the way he can win the heisman, but we have no reason to believe either of those things will happen.
I can respect people having a different opinion, especially between Murray and Mett because they are so similiar. But to put this loss on Mett is ridiculous. I guess you put the Clemson loss on Murray since he had an int.

ETA: With 1:45 left on the clock you cant run the ball.

again, for the rushing thing, LSU stat line for the game was 2.1 yards/rush for 77 total rushing yards.

the rushing game was dead and not an option. how is this unclear?

for the sake of argument I conceed the Clemson loss is Murray's fault.

which makes Murray 2-1 in big games this year
Mettenberger is 0-1

I don't think he was putting the loss squarely on Mett. It's obvious there were several things you can point at. He's just saying Mett had a chance to make a play and didn't....

That said, to the original topic of the tread, Manziel seems to have a lot more competition this year than last. It's Murray, Boyd, Mariotta as opposed to fricking Collin Klein and Manti Teo. I know it's early, and guys usually drop out of the race come October and November, but I could very easily see Johnny not win it because there are too many other guys around that he can lose votes to. And if the voters need a tie-breaker between multiple close contenders, you can bet that spite can and will have something to do with it.
