I went to work full time. It paid 4.50 an hour and I started out as a gopher. I now make a very comfortable living and when I retire (if I live that long) I will do so very comfortably. Work hard and you will achieve your goals. Do your work as if God is your boss and you will prosper.

You guys were rich!
My first full time job started me at $2.86/hour. I worked part time at UPS and made $8/hour at the same time.
My wife is retiring next year after teaching for 29 years, and I hope to retire from full time work at 55 years old. Here's hoping for the best for all.

Street racing was much more affordable back then and it was before the yuppie kids were getting their momma's to buy them mustangs and throwing nitrous on them, thinking they were hot rodders.

I started at $2.85. Minimum wage was $3.15 but some goofy state law said that minors still in school could be paid sub-minimum. The company I worked for recited that law to all the minors weekly.
eta: they recited it weekly because they never told you when you hired on - most would leave after the first check.

Are you sure it was state and not federal. States can exceed the minimum wage, but I don't believe they can go below it.
There are some people that are subject to different federal wage laws, though.
