A play that seems to have bothered most here.

Break down this play...
My take is this play was designed to go to the TE. First read. TR makes the read, sees the blitz, dumps the pass. It was the right call, the right thing to do on his part. The ball was off a bit.
What busted up that play? 2 things. 1- Look at every defensive guy. All within 5 yards of the LOS. That was due to running so many runs vs the pass. 2- Perkins failed to make any contact on the blitz. Had he made that 1 second brush on him, the TE had one one one.

My take is T.R. knew where he was going with the ball before it was snapped and so did the defense. Follow T.R. eyes and watch the 3 defenders doing the same thing
Tubby was so open too
Tubby was so open too

Yeah... The LB showed blitz early too... Gotta look to the slot receiver first.

Hit the TE who is wide open when the linebacker breaks on perk. I know TR was under pressure but dang nobody 10 yards around him

So much wrong at that point in the game.
We had just ran the ball like 5 times in a row. Look at the start of that play.
1- 11 defenders within 5 yards of the LOS. 11. That tells you 2 things. All we have done was to pull them in because we are running so much, and we have not taken a shot down field in a while.
Seriously, go back and watch the first drive and where the defense is lined up vs that play.
2- PErkins with no bump on the blitz, and that's clearly his job.
3- TR should have thrown it away. he had less than 2 seconds on the play from snap to the throw.
I'm watching on a 120" screen, and he clearly is watching the TE and then turns to throw. Because they are all in the box, three guys were with in reach of anybody. Lewis at the bottom comes open too. the replay may show that better.

If perk makes contact, that a huge play.
I think his over all best option was Lewis. However, the play called was to the TE. That's why he's looking there first. He has to read that pressure before the snap and know.

Why do you keep saying this like you know that he was supposed to make contact? You can't say that he was supposed to or wasn't supposed to on that play. And yes, my take is that Tyler knew where he was going before the play and stared him the phuck down as usual. It's like Dan teaches them to turn and throw slowly. There's no other explanation. The easiest wide open throw was probably the slot but he would have checked down to the TE first.

Yeah what's wrong with that play and that entire game is the total lack of offensive creativity.
Dammit if we do the same thing this saturday I will slay Mullen and Les myself.
Hopefully the mannings taught TR a thing or two about disguising his plays.

that's all on TR...he saw the blitz, and immediately went to his "safety net" in Perk.
if he had not looked for Perk before the snap made it to him he would have see that Tubby was wide open and the the TE was streaking to the end zone also wide open

A pumpfake right there -- and it's a busted play by OK State and a TD for MSU... That LB was going to run/jump right past him...
Still a terrible decision on the part of Russell. Just throw that one high and deep and let Malcolm run under it -- and at the very least back them off the LOS. He's got to see everyone in the box and take steps to correct it -- especially when Mullen was letting him essentially call plays at the LOS...

Just watch other plays and you will see. However, it's not worth arguing about. Just going to say it was his job.

Well, it's ok that your opinion is that he didn't. ME, I know he did. His head movement shows it. He did not stare him down either.
But again, I'm not going to argue. I have better things to do.

I just want our coaches to explain one thing to us.
Either
1) Why are they so against the qb turning his hips quickly and getting the ball out quickly and never ever shuffling their feet?
if they don't teach that then:
2) Why do our quarterbacks ignore what they teach?

There's no doubt that we teach it, and there's no doubt that we are the only organized football team in America that teaches it.

UHHHHH no
We ran a flood route to the short side- Perkins was supposed to get his arse to the flat asap. Russell's pre-snap read told him Perkins was his man and he didnt vary from that- stared his arse down the whole way
Shitty, shitty play by Tyler.

It is just painful to see 3 guys wide arse open...

#1 all of you saying that Tyler stared down Perk are wrong. If you go back and look at this play frame by frame on youtube, it's clear. Tyler looked at the middle of the field until he reached the end of his drop, he doesn't look at perk until his hips turn that way.
#2 The TE was NOT open on that play...he only APPEARS to be open because of the reaction to the thrown football. He doesn't peel of his man until after the ball is thrown. Due to the ball being in the air so long, it appears as if the TE was "wide open"...he wasn't at the time the ball was thrown.
#3 This is poor play calling/design by our coaches, no way we should run the flood to the short side of the field with two other receivers in the area. Even if he does complete this pass, he doesn't get to the first down without at least one whiffed tackle.
#4 This play is still on Tyler, but not for the reasons mentioned above. As the MLB clears his area to cover perkins (obvious mismatch), he recognizes the mismatch and the unaccounted for blitzer, but the middle of the field where the MLB vacted is open. He must trust Jameon to recognize it, break his route inside (which he does) and hit him for a first down. Even a pass that doesn't lead him away from the safety nets a first down. It wasn't a matter of not recognizing the mismatch...it's choosing the most successful one.
Perk appeared to be the correct choice, based on matchups.
Lewis was the actual correct choice based on coverage.

it's still on tyler. he should have either thrown it to wide open Jameon or faked to Perk and hit the TE streaking
