True, but how do you ever enforce these rules? Do you hammer down on some while others skate by?
This kind of crap goes on at every institution. The thing that especially ticks me off is that it isn't like our coaches are handing the kids these checks. That is something the university can control and where the university should be liable.
But how do you ensure that these kids don't get money outside of the athletic complex? Simple. You can't. And neither should you. As I'm applying for grad school, I'm looking at schools that will pay me to go. That does not negate my eligibility as a student. There is no way that these student athletes can work a part time jobs during the season because of the requirements of the sport. They bring in lot of money to the university, so why shouldn't they get a small percentage of it?
The rules are antiquated and should be changed.
Lets face it. If we learned anything from $cam, Oregon, JFF, it is that the NCAA has way more rules than they can enforce. And if they did enforce these rules across the board, almost all programs would have sanctions.

You can't. The NCAA has no leverage over the NFL and there's absolutely no way of getting them to work with you if not working with you is going to harm their economic interests.
