Passing:

Johnny Manziel 35-50-1, 520 yards, 6 TD

Rushing:

Ben Malena 21 carries, 151 yards, 2 TD
Tra Carson 23 carries, 131 yards, 4 TD
Johnny Manziel 13 carries, 67 yards, 1 TD

Receiving:

Mike Evans 13 catches, 239 yards, 2 TD

Tackles:

Howard Matthews 9 Solo, 8 Assisted, 17 Total
Clay Honeycutt 7 Solo, 7 Assisted, 14 Total

This is very bad. Our top 2 tacklers are safeties

Tackles for Loss:

Tommie Sanders 3.0
Tyrone Taylor 3.0

Sacks: 3 with 1.0 (also very bad. Only 3 sacks in 2 games. We had 10 after 2 games last year)

Interceptions: 4 with 1, 1 TD (this is much better. It took us until game 4 last year to get our 4th interception)

Forced Fumbles: 2 with 1. Fumble recoveries = 0 (need to fix this quickly)

Our saving grace this year could be getting turnovers. Our defense is not going to be as good as last years, but if we can consistently force turnovers and get the ball back to the offense, we can win every game.

Turnover Margin after 2 games last year:

Game 1 (Florida) - 0 TO forced, 0 TO (Net Even)
Game 2 (SMU) - 1 TO forced, 0 TO (Net +1)

+0.5 Average

Current Turnover Margin:

Game 1 (Rice) - 2 TO forced, 1 TO (Net +1)
Game 2 (SHSU) - 2 TO forced, 1 TO (Net +1)

+1.0 Average

Not only that, but our offense is still brutally efficient about converting turnovers to points.

vs. Rice:

2 Rice turnovers = 10 A&M Points
1 A&M turnover = 0 Rice Points

vs. SHSU:

2 SHSU turnovers = 14 A&M points (1 INT RETURN TD)
1 A&M turnover = 0 SHSU points

24 points off of opponents turnovers

The secondary is hopefully due to Marcel Yates tutelage. Guy had DBs in the NFL consistently at Boise state. Jenkins is clutch but after two seasons with Miller and moore pushing the edge we really don't have a power rusher to force hurry up or sacks.

Someone is going to have to step up on the DLine or we'll just end up hoping for a TO/tackle from the secondary. That reminds me too much of the jaxson Appell era. Don't want the leading tackler on the defense to be a safety

We'll need an Okie State type of defense. We'll give up 400+ yards in a number of games but if we can force opportune turnovers we should be ok with our offense. Those guys forced something like 40 in one year in 2010.

Are Trey or Bramdon Williams not getting carries?

Trey got a few in the first game before turning his ankle. He sat out vs SHSU.

Brandon sat out all fall and then vs Rice and only got a few carries this week.

Wouldn't worry about it. It's a complete garbage statistic because we've rotated heavily at every position with no one playing that much - except the two safeties who both played virtually the entire games. Claiborne led us in tackles in week 1 but he didn't play much vs Sam (had 1 tackle).

This.

I would be more concerned if the Safeties led the team in tackles with a lot of tackles but they don't. Just not a lot of rotation at Safety but the Front 7 has seen mass substitutions.

Losing Raven though is a HUGE blow. There simply isn't enough depth at Safety. Maybe we can just let RSJ play both ways, he was awesome at Safety in HS, dude hits like a freight train.

Was Brandon injured? I just sort of expected them to take over in the run game.

yeah I forget what he did but his foot has been in a boot since mid-July. It only came off like 2 weeks ago.

Still haven't played Davis or Miles yet. Wiggins and Garner have only played on ST. Are Kenneth Marshall and Devonta Burns no longer on the team or just not that good?

Davis tweeted that he's being redshirted. Miles is hurt and it would be rather shocking at this point if he doesn't redshirt

Garner played at CB most of the 4th quarter vs SHSU

Are Kenneth Marshall

Marshall is hurt and hasn't been practicing

Had a TFL, then tipped the pass that Nate Askew housed.
