TOS: New Invention for Sale

A family member and his chem engineer buddies have invented and patented a chemical compound they are selling as a cell phone restorer.
Basically, you drop your phone in water.
Then you soak your wet broken phone in their chemical for a few minutes, the chemical bonds with water molecules to form some other inert non-conductive compound, and the phone works again, as if it is bone dry.
He's already got it in the Kennesaw State bookstore.
He hit my wife and I up to try to get him in some Athens stores, he said they all blew him off when he was in town peddling his product recently.
I think it's a good idea, but I just don't have time to peddle his stuff. 10 years from now I may regret that decision, but as of now, the best I can do for him is post here and see if anyone else is interested.
In case it matters, they are all full time engineers in aircraft engineering company in GA and this chemical is something used in aircraft engines blah blah something to do with water, and they modified it.
As far as safety, he said it's less dangerous than Acetone which is sold over the counter, as far as any MSDS standards.
Anyone interested?

aka a bowl of uncooked rice...........

I'm not dogging this... Just trouble shooting.....
I don't carry uncooked rice around in my pockets in the unlikely event that my phone could get wet at any minute, so why would I carry this chemical around?
Or.....does the chemical still save the phone when you dry off and drive home to get it?

You want to ask him? I told you all I know.

I've ruined two phones in water, and rice didn't work for either of them. Maybe it does work, lots of people say it does, but never worked for either of mine.
ETA- Three phones I've ruined in water. Rice didn't save them.

My bad, dude.
Honestly....I've never had a phone get wet to the point of never working again. So, I'm unfamiliar here.....

Because 9 times out of 10 the damage has already been done.
The water shorts out the boards and after that no amount of drying can save them.

I would be interested. I soak a phone about once a year.

This. Quit jerking off to pornos in the bathroom stall on your mobile and this sort of thing would be prevented 9 times out of 10.
By the way, having an MSDS equivalent to ACETONE would make me stay far the hell away from this shite.

Well, his marketing pitch says otherwise.

Well good for him.
I just know unless he has nano technology that repairs the shorted out boards...its bullshite.
Sucker born every minute...

Tell me more about nanotechnology and shorted out boards.
Remember... the board is only shorted out when it's wet... because water conducts electricity.
Now, tell me about nanotechnology and shorted out boards.
Tell us all.

Otterbox is a monster company that sells protective and waterproof phone cases. They just purchased Lifeproof which is another monster cell phone acccesory company. Thats a billion doller annual sales company for freaking cases. If they can sell the idea to someone like that or another accesory company that would be one way to go. It would be hard to get them or anyone to fork out very much for an unproven selling item though so its a long shot I would think. If the formula works and you could somehow capture a bunch of wothless Samsung Galaxy and I Phones, restore them to working condition and sell them as used...You would sell the hell out of some phones that you would get for free or almost free. Last years Galaxy used still sales for $250(I was in a used cell phone place today). If you had 10,000 of them and sold them at $150 you would be sold out in a week.

This is a different direction. I'll mention that to him. Thanks Buddy.

You said he dips the phone in water...

only way way the board would not be shorted would be to remove the battery(no power to cause a short)

Does not exist for this application, and that comment obviously went over your head.

Rice works but not in the way people think. It attracts Asians in the night and they fix your shite.
Do they have samples?
Do they have samples?

No... pretend the phone just fell in your toilet... that's the "dip your phone in water" part.
Then you take your wet ruined phone and put it in the chemical, etc.
You aren't very smart.
And you are the one who said he needs nanotech to fix a wet phone, then I call you on it, and you say it doesn't exist for this application and it's over my head.... what kind of idiot are you?
ETA- it's apparent you don't know shite about circuits or electricity.

If it was shorted by water, then dried, it is no longer shorted by water. Do you understand that concept?
Do you know what a short is?

And you are the one who said he needs nanotech to fix a wet phone,
If he is going to fix the phone with only a liquid solution then there better be some small nano robots doing some repairing of those shorted boards.
Sorry if insulted your buddy's scheme...but damn this is common sense.
