Steve Spurrier interview on ESPN: The Head Ball Coach still has it

How far out front is Alabama from the rest of the pack in the SEC?
Steve Spurrier: Let’s put it this way: When you have the No. 1 recruiting class in America every year, not every other year or every third year, how can you not be out front, especially when they’re so well-coached and football is so big there in Alabama? Nick Saban does an excellent job and gets his guys prepared to play. But I compare it to what Kentucky’s got going on in basketball when they’re getting the top players in the country every year.
You haven’t hesitated to point out how much scheduling has impacted both the SEC and national championship races the past few years. What do you make of your schedule this year given the fact that you avoid Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M in the West?
SS: It evened out a little bit, but we play Clemson every year and also play North Carolina this year. Georgia’s got a tough schedule this year, too. Did you see who Texas A&M plays out of conference [Rice, Sam Houston State, SMU and UTEP]? That’s embarrassing. They don’t play Texas anymore because they both got mad at each other. To me, that’s childish. It would have been like Clemson saying they were not going to play us anymore after we joined the SEC. They would have gone crazy around here. We’ve been playing these guys for 100 years, and now all of a sudden, we’re not playing them? The schedule can make or break you.

I completely agree.
Both sides are at fault here, and it sucks for college football IMO

Yep, we won't get to see Clowney chasing JFF around next year.

You would.
Our school has said at every turn: We'll play them anytime anywhere. Whenever they want to play, we will. They told all their coaches in every sport to not schedule us. How exactly is A&M at fault for that?

Obviously since TAMU beat Bama last year. They definitely are beatable. Many other SEC teams could beat them.

Playing South Carolina would not make the non conference schedule any less pathetic

Ok, sure. Oversimplify the complexity of what went on.
Everyone knows there was a lot more to it than aTm saying "we're leaving" and texas replying "well go to hell we never want to play you again."
You can't be that naive.

Having trouble finding where this refutes what Spurrier said.
Being out in front =/= unbeatable.

quit sucking your own dick for one minute and reread the quote. Now.......comprehend the quote. Go on.

With Texas A&M departing for the SEC next year, the future of the Thanksgiving game between the Aggies and Texas has been placed in jeopardy. A&M has made it clear that, despite it being an out-of-conference game, they want the series to continue. So far, Texas hasn’t quite reciprocated that level of optimism.

Saving the Lone Star Showdown with Texas A&M is not. In fact, it doesn’t even appear to be on the radar.

so these articles from 2011 prove what exactly? The fact that at the time it looked like the bigxii was in bad shape and texas was more concerned with it's conference issues rather than the freshly departed aTm team?
I guess my point is that it's not completely one-sided, and it will take both sides ACTUALLY trying to make it work.
They need to, it's stupid for the biggest 2 programs in Texas to not play each other.

Mike - The President of A&M extended an olive branch at the time and publicly stated A&M's position that we're open to continuing the series. Dodds' publicly rebuffed that olive branch with more smokescreens about their schedule being full.
A&M was open about this. Texas was hurt and acted childish. Now, we have both moved on.
This is not opinion. This is fact, and it is all public knowledge.

I just hear different versions of the story from Texas buddies.
Usually when I hear two vastly different interpretations, I feel as though the answer/truth lies somewhere in the middle.
That said, I could be wrong.
And, you're with us now. frick'em.
