I think you're missing my point though. My point is that the Religious Right and Christians in general shouldn't cherry pick some sins as worst than others and should focus on the sin nature that EVERYONE has (if you believe the Bible) and include themselves as "bad" or "sinful" when preaching or debating with someone. In other words something as seemingly trivial as gossiping or envying your friend for his house or job and wishing you had them is just as bad as adultery, homosexuality, etc, etc.

If you object to me merely pointing out that the Bible very clearly points out the things I listed as sins then I don't know what to tell you. You and I might not like it and may think for example that gays have the right to marry and live as they choose but I can't believe what the Bible says while pretending that gay marriage is Biblical sound. That doesn't mean that as one who believes himself to be Christian that I or other Christians should fight gay marriage or stand in the way or them getting married. There is a big difference.

You are SO right! My s/o is very socially conservative, an I'm not. He realized very early on that I live my life in a pretty conservative way. But I do not tell others what they should or shouldn't do. That is for them to decide, not me. He says I'm not a "typical liberal", I just have some liberal tendencies to go with my very conservative upbringing.

I realize that in God's eyes, sin is sin. And everyone will struggle with their own path in this regard. I want to live my life so that I like the person who looks back from the mirror and is at peace with myself and my actions. But I won't try to force my beliefs and way of life on others politically.

Baptists are famous for picking and choosing which sins they actually consider sins. They'll be all-condemning, fire and brimstone about certain things that they don't do. But then they'll turn around and do whatever the frick they like. If I'm going to be around sinners in a church, I want to be around people who admit they're flawed and don't try to pretend otherwise.

A lot of Methodist churches are just as bad as baptists, at least in Alabama. I was raised Methodist, but I don't consider myself one anymore. I consider myself Episcopalian now

What are my greatest flaws? Which sins are going to keep me out of heaven? Show me how to get me some Jesus.

Please judge me, beat me, shame me.
