Just because someone has a high star ranking doesn't mean they rank high on Mizzou coaches rating system.

I think it's more a competition thing, our coaches have been quoted saying they won't "waste their time" on a highly contested out of state recruit, they would rather try and find someone easier to land who may have been overlooked. It's an odd strategy in my opinion, but it seems to work for the most part.

Looks like another great offer in the Nashville area. I can't figure out why we haven't offered 4star WR Van Jefferson from the area. LINK
They might know he's already a lock elsewhere? I dunno. I would like to see us take another WR or 2. With the depletion of our WR corp and the fact that it looks like we won't be able to redshirt as many as we otherwise would have makes me think that we might have to take 1 or 2 more than we originally would have.

yea it's worked well enough to make us competitive, no indication it will work well enough to ever win a big trophy.
but it's the only real plausible explanation, the idea that somehow Pinkels staff knows those 4-5 star guys aren't really that good, is not.

That makes sense with offers that everyone else has offered but they offered Christian Kirk (37 offers and from Arizona) and Keisean Lucier-South(27 offers from CA). These are guys that they have no chance with or recruiting inroads in their state, yet a big receiver from a border state doesnt get one.
I will agree they pick some great diamonds in the rough but let's battle for solid recruits in border states.
I can't wait to talk about the season in a few weeks and have the recruits come to us after we are 6-0!

Ronnell Perkins Commits to Mizzou
Updated commits on OP

Per Dave Matter, Perkins is open to playing safety. Has no preference between Safety or WR in college. 4.45 40. Also returns kicks. Finished 7th in the state finals 100 meters for class 3 this spring.

I personally think he would have a better impact at defense, dude can hit. But looks like a really good athlete where he can play either side

Why is that? Not every 4 and 5 star recruit pans out. They aren't guaranteed to be good. There could be huge personality flags they know aren't worth the trouble.

fair enough. GP & co. are doing a fine job as it is. I would just love us to start with more diamonds than diamonds in the rough.
Perkins looks like a great under the radar guy. Small school, not much recruitment info on the sites.

I like Perkins. Remember watching his highlights before. I agree with the sentiment above. Would like to see him on the defensive side but looks like he could contribute in multiple ways.
My only thoughts on the higher profile kids is that I'd like to see us become the bride and not always the bridesmaid. Seems we make more cut lists now than ever before but it's time to make that next step and get them to pick Mizzou. Beckner. St. Amour. They come to mind off the top of my head. Let's lock 'em down.

Are there any more instate recruits you'd like to see Mizzou land? (Directed to anyone) After we lost Hentges and Ofodile, Perkins and Doherty were the only 2 that peaked my interest. Anyone else out there instate?

Actually they've been quoted as saying they go for the best athlete within their grading system, regardless. That's what I've always heard from the coaching staff.

I'll see if I can find the quote, but I recall reading a recent article (since camp started) where GP was quoted about his recruiting of DL. Basically said he doesn't even look to see if the kid can play football. He's looking for athletes or something along those lines.

Yea see that really doesn't even make sense, being a football players goes well beyond just being an athlete. Like that big OL they had from Ohio, Freeman I think, a real physical monster, just not the mindset to play football.
BTW AJ Harris is a Rivals 4 star..
Considering the fact that we offer plenty of 4-5 stars that we just don't get I have to conclude some of what comes out of COMO is simply coach speak for, "we just ain't that good at recruiting the stars kids".
