Because the SEC has had periods of dominance prior to the last twenty years.

Granted, not a hegemony on the scale that it is now, but it could be argued that the SEC had periods of dominance during the 60s and 70s.

Why forsake giant swaths of history for the sake of a patently historical discussion?
