The SEC became relevant when Bama beat west coast teams in the 1920s.
Aside from that, the past 20 years have been grand from an SEC perspective. However, Bama has won 4 national championships in that time. A sleepy time for Bama in relation to the SEC uprising. Regardless, one can't ever undermine 4 national championships during that time.

In 2014, the SEC West will be a full blown shoot out.
Bama, LSU, and TAM will be starting newbies at QB.
Bama could have Florida or Georgia--unsubstantiated rumor at best.
LSU will have Florida at least.
TAM will have South Carolina at least.
Could be the year for Ole Miss to make a run at the West title if none of the big-3 from the East are on their schedule.
The Rebel Bear fans could be thanking the lord for the permanent opponent rule for a divisional crown
