The argument is that only division games should count for determining division champions. For example, 2 years ago USCe beat every team in the East but wasn't East champ because they lost cross-division games.
The counter-argument is that it would take importance away from the cross-division games effectively making them OOC games

Only the unfair permanent cross-divisional cupcake games would lose their importance.
But there is the real reason why anybody would be against it.
