I just skimmed through there and saw this:

quote:

Last season, the [clemson] Tigers were one of the country's most improved defenses in the second half of the season; they allowed only 4.9 yards per play in their final seven games

I'm not a stat guru and don't exactly know what's good/fair/bad in relation to this category, but doesn't that seem a little on the high side? The blurb said that they ONLY allowed that much and point to it as a positive for their defense...but 5 yards per PLAY? Idk..it just doesn't seem like that's something to hang your hat on.

They might be a massive improvement, considering where Clemson was in 2011. They were just awful. That being said, Alabama's 2011 defense gave up 3.3 YPP. It was slightly higher in 2012, with 4.2 YPP. CU's 4.9 YPP in the "second half" of 2012 would roughly equate to 350 YPG. That would be Top 50 nationally, over a 12 game season.

A sub 5 Y/Play would put them in the top 30 defenses last year. 4.9 even would put them in the top 22. It's not too shabby, especially considering, even with the 4.9 average over the last seven, they finished the season with 5.65 y/Play. Which means they were giving up 6.55 per play in their first six games and worked it down to that. Improved to say the least.

That includes passing yards per pass attempt where 6yds/pass is bad and 11yds/pass is where the elite range.
