It is gubment work, so it is a bit pricey, but they are having to rip up quite a bit and be careful not to disturb the gates, they are removing a lot of dirt, new concrete and pavers, new trees(besides the two) and landscaping

I'm fine with the new plan. The corner kind of grew around the trees anyway, so trying to put new trees where the old ones were doesn't really make much sense. You're just putting trees there and a big part of their root base would be covered up by concrete.
It will get more of the crowd out of the intersection too by moving it back. They may not have to actually shut down the intersection after games anymore.
