This pettiness clearly cost the Hogs at least 2 titles.

I hated hated hated the fanbase at that time- both sides were insane. The Petrino debacle wasn't even a blip compared to then IMO- probably why I still pretty much dislike everyone (Nutt, Gus and Mitch) involved to this day.

I remember, vividly, the entire episode - the stories of all involved and many opinions & speculation of thousands not involved. By sheer accident and coincidence, I had a bit of insight into a small part of the ordeal, and while I believe there is some fault on all sides, I do believe much more of the blame lies with one individual and his overblown ego and self importance, in other words, his narcissism.

I think what is forgotten, which unfortunately is the case in these situations, is that there was an extremely talented, young man whose skill and natural ability were wasted because of the power trips and greed of others, along with a bit of his own ego, which, perhaps, as another poster stated, contributed to his loss of passion for the game.
