I have heard he is projected to be the starter before seasons end. Thats just someones opinion, but I have to share that opinion.

If he's not good enough to be, it's gonna be a long season.

I think it'll be a long season reguardless.

Been on that one for two years.

I've admittedly been anti-Mauk. Hated his throwing mechanics, didn't think he was really that gifted athletically (in terms of running), and thought his stats greatly benefited from the 4 down throwing offense that his father ran at his HS. But seems like he has the intangibles of a true QB, seems like he gets it done.

I have high hopes for Mauk, but count me in the minority of fans who expect Franklin to win back the job and hope it will happen. I think if healthy he will have a bounce back year for us. And if he can't stay on the field like last year it will give Mauk experience and hopefully he will be better than Berk last year. I know I do this every year, but I"m pretty optimistic about next year. We get a phenomenal home schedule where we will get a shot to steal a few, and the road games are mostly winnable. My biggest worry is honestly our defense, no idea what to expect.

I already feel myself fighting that urge to get optimistic about it. I've been swearing I'm taking a "show me" approach believing that what we saw last year is the best barometer of what this team is now. But like you, every year, I start to get optimistic as summer approaches. The schedule is certainly more favorable than last year's.

ha as a Mizzou fan you can't resist it! You get disappointed a lot but something about us makes us get our hopes up again each offseason. I can see it breaking either way next year honestly, nothing would really surprise me. But I think there is an opportunity in the schedule to get off to a fast start and also to get a few golden opportunities for some big time home wins.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you think a healthy Franklin would be a capable QB for Mizzou in 2013?

The schedule does present itself with opportunities. We should come out of the gate 4-0 instead of playing UGA and then SC on the road within the first 4. The optimist in me says the @Vandy game can be a bit of a revenge game for last year where injuries played a role in the loss. I don't hold out much hope @UGA but then getting both SC and UF at home this year provides an opportunity to steal a victory. SC was ugly last year but we played UF close and their offense doesn't scare me. UT at home and then UK would seem favorable for us. Finishing at Ole Miss and against A&M will be tough.

I really believe we have great skill position players. 5* wr, 4* wr, two 4* RBs. The o-line worries me but if healthy should be okay. Im trying to not be optimistic but i feel it creeping in. The black and gold game will tell us a lot about the QB race in my opinion.

I agree with you Reedus about the Vandy game. I don't have much hope for the UGA game either but I will still be right in the middle of the student section in my gold gear! lol
and James Franklin's performance his sophomore year is part of the reason for my optimism. I really believe he is talented and can be a good QB when healthy, I'm not as quick to turn or give up on a player. I think he will give us our best chance to win. But I guess we will see. I like the idea that some of you have floated around about maybe Mauk getting a series or 2 like we did with Chase Daniel behind Brad Smith.

this is where my optimism comes from. The guy did have 35 touchdowns as a sophomore. Either way, if franklin or mauk does start and struggles or gets injured I feel better about our backup this year. Both are better than berk.

The oline's health concerns me. If we had to suffer through last year due to injuries, hopefully we reap the benefits this year from the extra year of experience they have. Now, if they can just stay healthy. I am really growing to like the idea of Boehm at center. He seems to be taking charge of the unit. Speaking of oline, what a bust Demien has turned out to be. He's still way down the depth charts. I had held out hope something would click with him and we'd see him emerge.

I truly hope they change the way he stands so flat footed and straight legged in the pocket. Maybe I just never paid attention to it before, but I just don't remember a quarterback doing that before, outside of Gabbert.
Dave Matter had a decent interview with Henson talking about how Franklin needs to develop and is working on developing more of a "command presence" I think was the phrase. Essentially, it's ok to dig in your heels, show some emotion and make a statement that we will compete.

I truely believe that the best qb will play and will be effective. I think a fire has been lit under Franklin and he will be much improved whether he wins the job or not.
If Mauk is good enough to win it he could be our next superstar qb.

Franklin is lights out vs terrible defenses (like 75+ total defense rankings). I don't see many of those on the schedule. Franklin hasn't produced as a QB vs a quality defense that I can think of.

Saw a video of him recently on wearemizzou or PM, and it looks like that throwing angles at about a 45 degree angle now, so if " he that putteth up the video game numbers" is ready to go then just call me a homer cause I really can't wait to see him play. Besides if JFF can do that to SEC defenses what could Mauk do. Only thing I hope is he keeps himself outta trouble off the field...MIZZOU
