Nickoe Whitley and Robert Johnson working out on return teams

Does anyone else find this odd? Jameon Lewis is working on both punt and kickoff return. Whitley is working punt return. Johnson is working kickoff return. That doesn't exactly sound like two guys who are ready to shred the field for a score. I think they will both have good seasons at their positions. But return man? Am I missing something?

No. KO returns will be Lewis and Perkins unless I missed something. If one of them gets injured, you'll need a back-up. Johnson isn't out of the ordinary. Leon Berry returned kicks under Mullen.
And what's odd about a secondary man returning punts? Hasn't Whitley returned a few before? I could be totally wrong but two years ago I think he did a few times. But then again, I'm just totally speculating and guessing about it all.

I just think that putting Whitley back there is saying, "we're just trying not to make a mistake" instead of, "let's see how close to the endzone we can get." Same thing with Rojo.

We will be looking for a head coach as well

Rojo was on 2nd team ko return last spring so no surprise. Jameon will handle all punt returns. Will Redmond and Jameson Love both got reps at ko return yesterday as well. Those 2 could be interesting back there

Agree. It seems weird. You'd expect some burners like Holloway and Redmond back there.

it's the 4th practice of the spring...depth charts mean jack shite right now.
I'm sure it's just to give some other guys a look to see how they do but I highly doubt when the fall practices and games come around those guys will be returing

I guess I am butthurt because I have been hoping to see Holloway back there. I mean if Whitley is fast enough to be a return guy, he must just be really dumb. And I know Rojo doesn't have return guy speed. That's all I'm sayin.

I heard the first couple of practices Nickoe had to work on catching a punt by letting it come to him instead of trying to bring his hands up like he was trying to pick the ball.

Rojo absolutely has return guy speed

Didn't know that. Never seen it. Still not sure I believe you. I mean I trust you and love your observations and stuff but I don't see it. I'm also not out there and am not a coach. If he has return speed, then he should have a breakout season.
It's like when people would act like Jonathan Banks was some speedster. I was always like, "what jonathan banks are you watching?"

He's not Holloway fast but he's faster than Banks. Personally, I like return guys who can take a bump and keep trucking. That's Rojo. If you prefer pure speed guys, they worked Love and Redmond. All this said, I think Jameon is the best

I want Jameon doing it. Just like in the egg bowl last year he has the speed to outrun almost anyone on the field

I'm just assuming that Jameon is #1 on both. I hope so. He will make some highlight reels. Hopefully he is finally ready for all that responsiblity.

Actually when a punter spins the ball correctly, there are a number of coaches that teach you to catch a punt just as you would a pass.

Then he would not done it every punt, and he wouldn't have stopped doing it later.
