Yep I had just finished school and was ready to propose to my girlfriend and the week that I was headed home to break the news to her.....she broke up with me. It killed my soul. I had a hard time dealing with that. Then on top of that I lost my job due to layoff and then had about $60k in student loans to pay. It was so overwhelming at the time that I put me in a huge state of depression. I was not happy for a very long time. I resorted to drinking heavily every day. I felt I had nothing. Then one I thought about the whole needle and insulin thing. Was ready to go through with it and then it was like some sense was knocked into my head.

I don't take any medication for depression. It usually comes and goes. When I feel it coming on...as it has been the past couple days, I usually plan a trip somewhere and get my mind straight. I'll probably head to the beach this weekend.

Yeah I don't take any medication either. Mainly because that shite earmarks you in military records and I've got a few career goals that would be hindered if I went that route. What you're doing now is exactly what the doctor ordered, though (pardon the pun). My tonic for depression is usually playing basketball till I drop or working out in the gym like an animal. If I'm home with the wife it's usually catching up on the honey-do list or having sex if she's in the mood. Also singing--I sing when I'm in a good mood, but also when I'm stressed. God said make a joyful noise--didn't say anything about it having to sound good!

Keep it up, man. I feel you on the student loans thing too, btw. It's overwhelming sometimes.

I have never thought of it. I have a friend who was really thinking about. I was haning out with him and he wanted to slit his throat. I hade a long talk with him. Missed a couple of classes but it was well worth it.

I made him go get mental help.

The main thing is stay supportive.

The closest I have got to it was when a ton of gay rumors about me started making it rounds at my school. I finally realized it was not worth fighting something stupid like that.
