Has HCGP failed at even the most basic of coaching functions?

Relatively compete in the SEC: Fail

Consistently beat inferior OOC opponents: Fail

Create any level of confidence within the fanbase: Fail

Keep the top in-state recruits at home: Fail (DGB does not make up for all the misses)

Keep his personal life from interfering with team functions: Fail

Create a culture within the locker room of self-discipline and dedication: Fail

Build on current recruiting grounds, while creating inroads elsewhere: Fail

He was a mediocre MAC coach. Toledo had its best years after he left.

Not a complete fail. The tigers were ranked #1 in the strength of schedule departmant. This really should not be overlooked.

I think that only matters if you're winning games and trying to determine who may be the better of 2 teams with nearly identical records. Kind of irrelevant when you're not bowl eligible unless you're using it as an excuse for not making a bowl.

There are people on there saying that he has brought us to the level that we are at, and he deserves the right to take us back to that level. We owe the man everything.

While I see your point, each of these items are backed up by fact, many of which go back multiple seasons, even into our "glory years".

While I'd like to ignore it, and act as if everything's OK, that'd be irresponsible and stupid.

I think it's been more than one year. I like GP and like what he's done for the program, but a lot of it has also been smoke and mirrors too. Frankly, beating your chest about making bowl games doesn't impress me when all you have to do is finish .500 to get in one.

I guess Chizik had one bad year too right?

Who actually considers 2011 a good year?

Last year, even though we managed to end up 8-5, was kind of a "bad" year too. We were 4-5 at one point and feasted on 4 easy opponents in our last 4 games

I'm ready for Pinkel to go but that comment is just stupid. Pinkel led them to an undefeated season in which they also beat PSU. They haven't touched that since he left.

Pinkel has proven over 12 years now he is an average to above average coach. He can't win a game that matters. If being .500 is the goal, then Pinkel is our man. If we want more than that, we need to thank Pinkel for everything he has done and move on before things get even worse around here.

Pinkel is toxic on the recruiting trail. Things are only going to get worse while Pinkel is here.

I am honestly hoping Toledo wont beat us next year. They beat a Cincinnati a team that is better than we are, almost beat NIU on the road, and took Arizona to OT. Honestly we are prone to dropping these kinds of games.

i think we'll be fine next year. Not great, but fine.

Pinkel is what Pinkel is. I'm using the baseline of what he's won as the baseline for last year. Lots of injuries, lots of problems.

Hopefully he'll right the ship this year. Won't be giantkillers, but I think we can win some.

Hell, we played the East champs pretty tough before we were killed by injuries.

We'll win some. I think we'll win 3 of our OOC games, maybe 4 but certainly 3 at least. We'll beat UK. After that, not so sure. UT? Maybe. Vandy? Maybe. OM? Ehhhh, maybe? UF? No way. UGA? No way. USC? No way. A&M? Not a chance. I don't know if it's fair or not, but I just won't accept playing .500.

I won't either. I'm certainly not happy with it, and I don't think it is okay to be happy with .500.

Unfortunately, HCGP's strongest skill has been his ability to keep his own job. Who do we bring in that's a big enough game to run an SEC program? Certainly not someone from within the system. Who?

Dave Christensen after being blown out of Wyoming? No way.

We have to go outside the program for our next coach, which is unacceptable for me after as long as he's had with the success he's had in comparison to what happened before him. There should be someone ready, especially given the stability of the staff, which used to be one of the cornerstones of his public image.

We kind of have a culture of winning recently, his biggest failure to me is that we have to find someone from outside to continue it when he's done.

It's also so fragile it could completely be destroyed by a Quin-like hire. We're not where we should be at this point.
