DGAFIG. Searching on this site is a joke and I did my due diligence.
Short video of McDonnell on his new book.

Couple of fun facts:
These statistics, boys and girls, are ones that will likely never be broken by any school in any sport for the rest of time. Truly incredible.

During his 36 years coaching track and field for the University of Arkansas John McDonnell's teams won 40 national championships, the most by any coach in any sport in NCAA history. And from 1984 to 1995 his teams won 12 consecutive NCAA Indoor Track Championships, the longest streak of national titles by any school in any sport in NCAA history.
These statistics, boys and girls, are ones that will likely never be broken by any school in any sport for the rest of time. Truly incredible.

The claim of 40 titles being the most by any coach in any sport is wrong. Dan Gable has 45

Are you including individuals who won nationals? Because he won 17(ETA: nevermind, it's 15) team titles.
ETA: Upon further research, yes. He coached 45 individuals who won their respective class.
I'm sure McDonnell has coached more than 45 individuals who won the national title of their respective event.
