Apparently were not even a rival game for UGA

I guess its because they've either penciled us in as an automatic Loss as long as Spurrier is breathing. Or they're living in the past and still think were the doormat we were ten + years ago. Funny thing if you look at the last 10 meetings or close to it. None they won were by more than a touchdown. The boogey Man was coming they were just to comfy clutching the "blanket of the past" for safety to realize it.

I think they just don't want to acknowledge the perennial arse-kicking they receive every year now.

I made 1500 off the same UGA dumbass bandwagon fan from Augusta the past two years. He always runs his mouth via facebook so I call him out 2 years ago and he puts his money where his mouth is for $500. Last year I up it and tell him if we win by 10 or more he owes me $1k. I'm looking forward to this year maybe I can get him to 1500
I'm thinking if we limp out of the gate like we typically do. He'll be so fired up with us coming to Sanford he'll up the money.

It's either me or you, but someone is confused. What does the thread you linked have anything at all to do with if UGA sees USC as a rival? That entire thread is about clemson (and later on georgia tech).

Yeah, I think people forget what the term Rival means. It's usually connected to 2 foes. I think UGA likes to list 2 to 5 rivals, and that's cool, that's their perception. To me, Rivals means 2 opponents. Then there are teams I'm happy about beating, (moreso than beating a Troy or Div II team,) Uga is one of them, but so are Tenn and FL.
Some fans consider the USC/UGA matchup a rivalry, some don't, on both sides. We even have the border bash to get together before the game. It's a great SEC game, and usually has an impact on the post season (except these past 2 seasons.)

If yall actually beat us 4 in a row this year, we can start to talk about the beginnings of a rivalry. We'll let you take Tennessee's spot at #4 behind GT,FL,Auburn.
That's assuming we beat Tennessee.

quote:Well I think the whole premise is pretty stupid. I'm sure some of the older UGA fans see Clemson as a past rival but y'all have only played 4 times since we joined the SEC in 1992 and we've played every year since then obviously. USC has actually played more games with UGA than Clemson and has about the same win% so I don't see how UGA fans think Clemson is more of a rival than us especially considering how important our game is in the SEC race. But that's just my opinion. I realize UGA has multiple rivals and we're fairly low on the list while y'all are considered our #2 rival right now. No big deal.

Yes..which is why everyone agreed that they're a past rival but notsomuch anymore.

My point is admit it or not were your biggest rival behind Florida. Don't really care what your argument is because I'm sure it will be that same logic I've heard growing up in Augusta. Bottom line without your MVP "Schedule" the last two years. Your SEC East trip stops with a run in with THE COCKS. As far as not being considered until we win 4 in a row. Lol we've played you closer than a TD for 6 years straight then beat your asses the next 3. That's almost a decade your fan base slept through. We're here and were punching your asses in the face every time we see you.

It's you, my point is none of you list us as a real rivalry but we do.

UGA fans have always looked down their noses at USC, some always will.
Not really a big deal. Can't change their views by whining about how we think they're our rival

And my question to you CR is, is that an issue? Of course SC has gotten our goat recently. But kepe in mind this is the pinnacle of SC's football history right now, the golden era. GT, UF, AU, and UT we have decades upon decades, sometimes over 100 years worth of history and tradition with those schools.
I understand yall think UGA doesn't "respect" or acknowledge SC as a rival, but that isn't true. It's just that these things are formed over long periods of time, not just the last 3 years.

We've been irrelevant in football for a great deal of our history, and true rivalries form from significant competition over long periods of time. If we were to continue beating UGA over the next several years and keep them from winning the East, we'd surely move up their list of rivalries and no longer be an expected win anymore (not that we should be by this point). It is sustained success that makes other teams respect you and view you as a rival, and most SEC fans think our success will end when Spurrier leaves. Just gotta prove them wrong, I guess.
If you beat a team enough, eventually they'll start to despise you, and we're kind of starting to do that now with UGA, but they've also made the SECCG in the end, so their losses to us don't hurt as much I think.

I will say, however, that as someone who lived in Georgia for a long time, it is the younger generation of UGA fans mostly that view us as a heated rival. They've seen us beat them a lot, so naturally they don't like us.

Yeah, I don't give a frick if Georgia doesn't consider us a rival. I just want to beat them every year.

UGA/USC is a big game but we have no claim to be in their top 3 rivals.
Auburn/UGA is the oldest continually played game in football; GT/UGA is instate and speaks for itself; UF/UGA is WLOCP.
UGA/USC is more of a rivalry for us b/c:
1) We only have two border states, one of whom we don't play any teams from regularly
2) We joined the SEC in 1992
3) Our permanent West opponent is removed from us geographically so there hasn't been much opportunity to develop a rivalry
The road to the championship has RARELY gone through Columbia, SC so teams have seen us as a stepping stone rather than a game they need to circle on their calendars. This was true of UGA up until VERY RECENTLY (like a year or two ago). In college, my friends at UGA saw us a game to endure (b/c even at their finest they always played to our level), not one on which the fate of the SEC or NC hinged.
However if we can pull off another win in Athens this year, you're looking at full roster cycle of players and students who have NEVER seen UGA beat USC. And the atmosphere for games recently has been electric, in both locations, w/ excitement coming from both fanbases. Rivalries aren't built in a day, they take time. UGA/USC has the potential to be a fantastic rivalry provided we can sustain our success.

Exactly what we are doing to Clemson and it will be awesome to do it to Georgia, also.
