Assuming this all goes down with Jones and RN as we hope, is LB a more natural position for a guy who weighs #230?

If so, would he play Mike, or OLB. I am assuming we go from a 4-2-5 to more of a 4-3 with Shack back this year as a backup to DN, CJJ, and MM. Just want your opinion. I will hang up and listen....

I dont think so. You need depth in this league.

I think you run with Ward and Johnson, Chris Jones and Robert Nkemdiche, Cameron Whigham and Elijah Daniel.

Daniel and Nkemdiche can both play inside as well at times.

Kiffin believes in whoever does best in practice starts. So dont think Cameron Whigham is just gonna get out worked. That kid will be in his senior season.

I think Thompson will be moved to TE for depth.

Only way I could see it is if we went to a 3-4 which I doubt. We need 6 DE's to play at the pace Feeeze wants to play at. Having the ability to run 3 units out there and have little to no drop off would be huge.

DN, MM, KL, TS and company can hold down LB. IMO

I don't care as long as our defense is effective

I start thinking about our starting defensive lineup and I'm like:

fap, fap, fap, fap........

But if we moved CJ, he would probably be the best LB we had on the field. With no drop off on the D line position.

Think about the impact that a great LB has on a team: Lawrence Taylor, Patrick Willis, Ray Lewis.....those guys are the best athletes on the team, and they are essentially difference makers in that position. I am not sure you can say that about great DE or DT, except for maybe Reggie White.

I dont agree. I just dont think he is a LB. He has a DE body now. Also with DT Shackleford, Keith Lewis, Mike Marry, Temario Strong, Ralph Williams, Sederius Bryant we have plenty of depth at LB.

New York Giants defense would be nothing without their D-Line

ETA: But i do agree.. Linebacker is one of the most crucial spots on the defensive side of the ball. Especially ones like the 49ers have that can drop back in coverage and literally play every position on the field.

You don't move you're best pass rusher on the current team to LB regardless of who is coming in. In addition, CJ is trying to put on weight to move up to 255 lbs. I just think we need to keep him at DE unless we have depth issues at LB or we switch to a 3-4.

I don't see it happening. CJ's speed off the edge this year was incredible. Keep him there and we'd be two deep at the DE position.

I can see us going to a 3 or 4 DE set on passing downs like the Giants do...

Picture Jones and CJJ at DE and Ward and Nkemdichie at DT on passing downs.

And we arent even mentioning 5* Lavon Hooks and Issac Gross.

This DL and OL is the start of something great.

I mentioned this last week in a different post somewhere, but after thinking about it, I agree with most of you guys. He really is the heart of that Dline and is VERY good a the pass rush. Even with the talent we have coming in, we still need his experience this year at DE.

Man...just thinking about this defense for the next few years is a great thought....and for me, its surprising because I was thinking of us being a more offensive team, and yes, we're gonna have that too. Its going to get interesting.

That is the scary part about that hurry up offense. You get to a Oregon style offense with a legit SEC defense and people dont want to see that. It was always the knock for those Oregon teams, always the knock for those Big 12 teams. If we have a legit SEC defense with that offense look out.
