I don't listen to a lot of mainstream country these days. I'll occasionally hear something I really like (i.e. In Color - Jamey Johnson) but for the most part I'm turned off by the poppiness. I like steel guitars and maybe a fiddle or two with my country.

Honestly, there's so much crossover in music nowadays that there's no real "pure" genre anymore, IMO.
I'll give everything a listen a couple times, and make my decision based on whether I like a particular song or not, not necessarily it's genre. So far it's working for me.

I'm practically in frickin Canada, dude. They have what is basically little gerbil tubes btw buildings up here so people don't have to be in the cold
