With a handgun, I like power. I don't want to defend myself and read the headlines an it say "home intruder shot 5 times, in stable condition". I want it to say "burglar shot once in chest, pronounced dead at the scene".

Exactly. Getting knocked flat on your arse or hurting your shoulder is a far better fate than being mugged, raped, or killed. Gotta get something that is going to end the encounter with one shot that hits home.
