Sorry, I just checked with the SEC home owners association and that idea does not meet with the by-laws for the following reasons:
Texas-does not play well with others
Oklahoma-Land Thieves not allowed
Oklahoma State-We already have Mississippi State

I'm pretty confident the LSU Student Body voted for a trophy for the game. So yeah, I'd say its without question a rivalry. Sorry but your divisions blow.
How many times do I have to tell you people that LSU and Ole Miss will NOT ever be seperated in some divisional crap????
Never will happen.

I say SEC adds UNC, Virginia Tech, swaps Mizzou for Louisville. We're going NAIA bitches

So I have seen a lot of talk about a 4 team pod not being an option. This may sound stupid, but would it be to weird to have permanent 4 team pods, with the divisions changing every year? Like the first year, pod A and pod B are in one division. The next year pod A and pod C are in the same division.
That way, instead of having a mini playoff system in the SEC and ruining teams chances of making the final 4, we can just have 2 teams play for the SEC championship like we do now, but this way also everyone will get to play each other much sooner. In 3 years if you rotate every year, or every 6 if you rotate every 2 years.
I still don't know about the pod system, but a rotational pod could be interesting.

Whatever gives Bama the easiest schedule year in and year out. Given the current state of the West, I bet we see a pod with Bama/Auburn/Missouri/Miss State
Okay...please tell me an UGA fan didn't just say something about whatever gives Bama the easiest schedule...
Oh, I get it. You were using sarcasm!

If the SEC expands it will be either VA/VA Tech and NC State.

More on 8x2. If the conference goes to 8x2, there will be one permanent opponent apiece. I think these would be the pairings....
Alabama and Tennessee
Arkansas and South Carolina
Auburn and Georgia
Duke and Missouri
Florida and LSU
Kentucky and Mississippi State
Ole Miss and Vanderbilt
North Carolina and Texas A&M
How, in the 8X2 scenario, assuming we keep the one permanent opponent, do we get around the issue of not playing other division schools once a millenium?
I agree with you and others that I don't think the pod system will happen, but, I'm not sure how they can keep teams playing each other more than once or twice a decade without some pod type system.
Even without permanent opponents, you'll have 7 division games.

SEC would have to drop the fourth nonconference game and switch to a nine-game conference slate. You have three OOC games, seven division games, one permanent cross-division rival and a rotating ninth game. You'd play other cross-division opponents about as frequently as you do now (the only difference being the addition of a seventh team to the rotation).

If only two teams come in then only Mizzou will move. If four teams come in who knows what they will do.

This. No matter what happens, LSU and Ole Miss will have to be in the same pod or play every year as permanent opponents no matter what. Neither school would allow them to not play every year. Would never happen.

Not only no but h*ll no (I'm at work so I have to censor myself).
I could live with Okie Lite (decent team but not too much of a threat and it would be a new state though a small one). Oklahoma would be a threat and they do bring eyeballs. It's that first one you mentioned that will NEVER be acceptable to me.

Or does everyone think we go to some weird 4 team pod set up?
I hope for this. I think this would help the MS schools.

KY,TN,VT,VU is a must division. These schools would fit perfectly with one another. Make it happen.

ALOT of sentiment in Chapel Hill that they want to go to the SEC if the ACC becomes no longer viable...
The ACC is a long way from being "no longer viable." Yea, they have lost Maryland and possibly Virginia but they have picked up Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Louisville and ND. The head scratcher is why ND never joined the Big 10.

Actually, in the recent listing of the top 100 research universities (in terms of overall research $$$), VT was #41. UVa (the AAU member) was 32 spots behind them at #73. (Even NC State did better, they were at #44.)
And since that seems to be important to the powers that be, better to have someone that carries their weight than someone living off their past.
