Based on various sources, there was either an issue with his transcripts, or he just didn't qualify, but Flowers will not be on the team this spring (or this fall).

Interesting and ironic that we dropped Rob Zimmerman because he wasn't going to qualify and Flowers was Zimmerman's teammate in JUCO.

Tough break for the kid, but I am excited about AJ Hilliard. Klein Oak represent!

Not a big deal. #1, Sanders is a MUCH better player who is all but guranteed to start. #2, Flowers wasnt going to beat out Baggs.

Losing middle of the road JUCOs is never a big deal to me. The bigger issue would be losing Darian Claiborne to TCU. That guy's offer list is a whose who of top 25 programs.

Sanders is a different position. Flowers fills an IMMEDIATE need at MLB. We don't know if Baggs (who backed up Jenkins) is ready to be the SIGNAL CALLER on defense.

Just to be fair, we don't know that Flowers would have been ready to do that either. I am not sold that Baggs can move from the outside to inside so easily but Reggie Chevis and Brett Wade are both Inside guys in HS and already on campus plus Claiborne, Matro, and Ed Williams are all inside guys as well.

Some of those names will move out but between Baggs and all the incoming freshmen they will find someone who can handle the role.

No matter who took over (even if it was Flowers) we were going to see a drop off from what J Stewart at least at the beginning but I think we will be fine. I am more concerned with the DE position.

Which side?

If Julien moves to weakside, then it gives Zo more playing time.

Both sides. Obioha played well but ended the year injured and I haven't heard much about that. Plus, he played well but can he be that pass rusher we need?

Alonzo Williams is still fairly inexperienced. Even is Alonzo and Obioha end up being the starters who is our depth?

Supposedly Brandon Alexander has really come on strong in the weight room and is a guy to watch. When we recruited him he was compared favorably to Von and Damontre. We may see a starting DL of Alexander, Ennis, Obioha with the other DT spot being filled by either a RS or true Fish (Hatten/Golden/Manning/Walker).

Without any inside knowledge I am guessing our D Line 2 deep to be something along the lines of:

WDE - Alexander, ? (I am guessing Tyrone Taylor)
DT - Hatten, Manning
NT - Ennis, Golden
SDE - Obioha, A Williams

That is kind of how I see things in my head based upon the praises I keep seeing heaped upon Alexander. I could also see Manning or Golden (maybe even Walker) being in contention to start over Hatten but not sure, the time on campus will benefit Hatten.

Baggs played inside at times this year (esp late season in mop up duty) and he's always been projected there. He played all 3 positions at various times and the coaches feel comfortable with him at MLB. Also, Sean Porter mentioned him as a future star.

We are projecting Wade to WLB (behind Jenkins), Claiborne to SAM. The good thing about both is they are flexible in what positions they can play though if we have need but they have never been recruited as MLBs. And saying they play that in HS can be deceiving bc in a 4-3 in particular, HS's often put their best LBer in the middle as it's harder to scheme him out of the play. Mastro and Chevis are MLBs and I think Ed Williams isn't going to sign with us.

Good to know I hadn't heard that.

I will be honest, the LB that I am most excited about is probably Reggie Chevis. He just looks like a player. Excited about all of them but I want to see him play more than any of them.

If the starting LB corps is Jenkins, Baggs, Sanders that won't bother me at all; Baggs played very well this year. We also have the Taylors and Jordan Richmond (if healthy) who do you think the LB 2 deep will be?

It's a vertebrae injury. It shouldn't be a major concern but he may need to take time off and he needs a specialized workout plan to keep it from being a long term problem.

I agree with you in that it's a concern but bodies is not the problem. Stansbury played a lot this year. The Taylors and Alexander also are all there without counting Polo (who could be a SDE as well). Either way he should be in either your DT or SDE 2-deep. You are also leaving out Ivan Robinson at DT who played a fair amount in the CB.

With a bit of inside knowledge, here would be my guess at 2-deep (obviously no one knows because most of the positions are up in the air).

WDE - Obioha, Alexander
DT - Robinson, Manning or Polo
NT - Ennis, Golden
SDE - A Williams, Stansbury

It's hard to say because it really depends on which freshmen show up ready to play. But I don't think either Taylor is going to be a normal LBer. I think they'll be used on 3rd down type situations as rush specialists. We did it a lot this year with Moore actually standing him up and moving him around.

As for the 2-deep guess, I'd say...

WLB - Jenkins, Wade
MLB - Baggs, Chevis
SLB - Sanders, Claiborne

But the coaches are really high on Mastro and he has great instincts. It wouldn't surprise me at all if he ends up playing and Chevis redshirts. Chevis is a freak athlete who imo has an extremely high ceiling but needs a lot of coaching. I think Mastro is more polished right now. But Chevis getting the spring....I dunno. It's really going to depend on how fast Chevis is able to be coached up.

I have no idea on Jordan Richmond. It's why I left him out.

Which is amazing cause he was one of our best D recruits last year. But with his back injury you never know what will happen.

You're confusing Jordan Richmond (redshirt freshman who is currently off the team due to failing drug tests) with Michael Richardson (Sean Porter's backup who had to have spinal surgery)

Crap I thought I had that all squared away properly I knew one of them had been kicked off the team and one was injured ... last names too similar.
